Southpoint

Our project was the building of a extension to our house, to include a Kitchen, shower room and utility area. Mr Evans of Southpoint, designed and managed our project to completion. The resulting building continues to bring our whole family pleasure, it works brilliantly in all it's functions and brings in lots of light. The old house and the new extension harmonise beautifully. Our new extension has been praised by all who visit, also passers by. Mr Evans was meticulous in ensuring his specifications where carried out in full and that budgets were met. We have worked with Jerry Evans of Southpoint as Structural Engineers on 46 of his projects over the last 14 years. He is professional, creative, thoughtful, and has great technical knowledge and understanding of Planning and Building Regulation requirements. His projects run more smoothly than any of the other Architects we work with; possibly because he considers the details carefully, with a pragmatic and experienced eye, and provides enough detail to inform the builder and reduce mistakes. Jerry is very conscious of time-scales during design and construction phases, and most significantly he is very realistic with his clients, avoiding the common failure of being over optimistic about budgets. The project values we have completed with Southpoint have ranged from small domestic alterations up to around £400,000. Currently we are involved with alterations to a high quality house in Abbot Leigh Village, Bristol, with a large cantilevered terrace overlooking the woods below.

Used for design stage of extending a domestic residence, including structural and energy efficiency detail. Experience demonstrated an ethical and holistic approach to design, which takes into account the full range of factors affecting both internal and external spaces. Attention to detail and full exploration of options and preferences, resulted in a design which not only looks good, but is also practical. In particular we were impressed by how the design maximises impact of seasonal changes in the sun's angle, supporting comfort and energy efficiency throughout the year.
