About Us

Matz Architecture is a dynamic design practice specialising in the domestic market and covering all aspects of residential architecture from extensions and house remodelling through to one off bespoke designed new build homes. Matz Architecture is ideally placed to offer you, the home owner, a full range of services from feasibility and concept design through planning and building control to completion. We work on all types of projects in the South Manchester and Cheshire area but are happy to discuss projects further afield. Matz Architecture works with a core group of consultants who we can bring on board as and when specialist knowledge is required. Prior to setting up Matz Architecture, Gavin Matz spent several years working for some of the country's leading design practices specialising in the both the design and build of ultra high net worth properties with projects across the UK and Channel Islands. Gavin is a Senior Architectural Technologist with over 25 years' experience in the UK and South Africa and his passion lies in turning a client's brief into reality.

From first meeting to finally walking into our newly reconstructed kitchen and living area we knew Gavin had a very preceptive vision of what best suited our needs. We are absolutely delighted with the end product and we have no doubt that the investment has contributed to an increased value of our property. Gavin was great to deal with, creative, responsive and always available.

I engaged Gavin to prepare scheme designs for a major refurbishment project to extend and convert a dilapidated Victorian building in Manchester into two large houses. The design was complex and the planning negotiations much more so. We would never have got there without Gavin's patience and negotiation skills .On planning approval Gavin prepared an excellent set of detail drawings incorporating in put from other consultants. As problems arose during the construction stage ( as is the case in refurbs ) Gavin was immediately there with the solution. Gavin Matz - excellent and then some. I should also say I am a retired architect , but living remote from the site handed the responsibility to Gavin. Could nt have been in better hands. No hesitation to recommend.

A tricky planning application as it was a corner plot on a cul de sac. Minimal space to work with. The time taken and ability to be creative in thinking this project through by Gavin meant we got permission at the first time of asking. I was elated. And not one brick had been laid ! Fast forward; the final bits were actually finished this morning. It looks amazing. And, as people have commented to me already, it looks like it has been there forever. If you need help with a project ask Gavin. You’ll be very happy with the outcome.

Gavin provided good ideas to get our project off the ground, he's been patient with queries and helped explain the building/permissions processes (we're first time extenders). The drawings look great and we're looking forward to working together to get the project built.

Gavin has designed and planned a wonderful extensive bungalow conversion for us . He shows great attention to detail and creativity . He is a pleasure to work with as he is responsive and communicates as needed . Highly recommended

Gavin was great throughout the project. His attention to detail and design flare gave us a house we can grow into and one which is constantly being used as an example for advertising for the various trades involved. He worked well with the builder and was interested in keeping in touch throughout the build and was also interested in the outcome. He cared. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Gavin and have already done so.

Gavin did all of our construction drawings for a full redevelopment of an old house. Only 2 original walls left. He was really thorough, worked well (and challenged well) with the builder and has designed us a great home. Often on site and always available on the phone, I’d highly recommend him.

We have used Gavin's services on two occasions: 1) A relatively straightforward rear orangery project. 2) A much more complex two level side extension linking the house with the garage and needing planning approval, as we live adjacent to a conservation area. Gavin came up with imaginative ideas, particularly involving tricky roofing design ideas. He remained closely involved with both projects as they proceeded and we found him very pleasant to work with.

Gavin was a fantastic architect to work with; he understood the brief entirely and was sensitive to the various interests and concerns of his exacting husband and wife clients! His ability to think 'outside the box' on what others had considered to be a straightforward extension project meant that he added wow factor to a build that could otherwise have been fairly conventional. He delivered more than we could have anticipated in terms of scheme/ideas/attention to detail - the latter was exceptional and translated into the high-end finish that is now the subject of much admiration. Gavin was always available on the end of a phone or email and happy to supervise as much or as little as we required. He worked well alongside the building team and was happy to feed back on dimensions and other aspects that inevitably crop up during the process. In terms of price he was transparent as to his fees, there were no nasty surprises and we found him to be eminently reasonable for the quality of service provided. I have recommended Gavin Matz to others and will continue to do so.

I am very happy with the work that Gavin has done for us. We have found him to be very professional, polite and courteous. The work done exceeded our expectations. There was no hidden fees, we were kept up to date with progress and Gavin was never more than a phone call away. I would definitely recommend him for any architecture work and can't thank him enough for everything.

Commented: Low Threshold bifold doorsIs your outside paved area level with the inside or do you step down to the garden level? If its level, it needs to be detailed and waterproofed correctly. I've done it on a number of occasions. ...
