Houzz AU Contributor Maya Anderson is House Nerd - the freelance journalist and blogger behind an interior design site all about Western Australian houses, interior design, architecture and renovations. Having worked as a freelance journalist for newspapers and magazines for more than ten years, Maya has garnered a name for herself as a reputable journalist in all things to do with houses and design. She realised there was a niche for a professional WA-focused homes, renovations and interior design blog and began House Nerd in September 2012. All homes featured on House Nerd have two things in common - a warm, inviting atmosphere and a feeling of truly being a home, not just a house, and House Nerd has been warmly received not just by readers in Perth, but across Australia and the rest of the world, particularly in the U.S, the UK and Canada. She is passionate that about styling on a budget and believes everyone can create beautiful interiors without spending a lot. As well as writing about houses, shops and interviewing experts in interior design and architecture, Maya also blogs about her DIY adventures renovating her own 1970s house, The Crap Shack, and is a home reviewer and newspaper columnist for The West Australian newspaper under her column, House Nerd. She enjoys working with highly respected, trustworthy architects, builders, store owners and designers looking to showcase their work on a high-quality, respected online avenue.

I review, style and photograph the latest products in children's decor. I work in collaboration with interior designers to ensure that the spaces they are providing their clients are developmentally appropriate and hold educational benefits, giving them that extra edge of design that may sometimes be overlooked.

For many years I worked in Administration, mainly in the Transport Industry. Throughout my life I have had a passion for design and when my husband and I moved to Three Springs, Western Australia I had the opportunity to work at Cunningham’s Ag Services as the Sales & Marketing Officer. While I was in this role I underwent the necessary training to create and maintain their website among other design and marketing tasks. Cunningham’s Ag later expanded and I took on the role of Sales and Marketing Officer for three other large businesses all of which I still maintain today. After moving to Geraldton, Western Australia and faced putting my young children in daycare I decided to put my creativity and web design knowledge to work. I have now been providing web design services to businesses locally and right across Australia for the past six years. I have been professionally trained in Adobe Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Illustrator, Photoshop and In Design.
