About Us

Innovative bespoke makers of high quality, sustainable furniture. Special Branch Furniture was formed by Marc Ellis with the principal objective that outstanding craftsmanship, sustainability and meticulous design be at the heart of each and every project delivered to our clients. Special Branch make bespoke wooden furniture and products designed to meet your exact requirements. Our small team provide a complete service from design right through to making and installation. We undertake commission-based projects for both domestic and commercial clients particularly free standing and semi fitted furniture. This includes tables, storage, display, kitchens and specialist product design – all in a diverse range of beautiful materials and styles. Our in-house design studio will work closely with you to develop and then present your ideas using 3D modelling software. Projects are then made in our solar powered, specialist workshop with the utmost care and accuracy. Special Branch Furniture has built a reputation for uncompromising quality and attention to detail. Our client base consists of private individuals, designers, developers, artists, architects, retailers and members of our national craft community. Marc trained in fine furniture making and design at Rycotewood College and has since accumulated over 30 years experience in a broad range of creative projects. Odeon Cinema - Leicester Square - Spanlite feature wall. Special Branch are a delight to work with! Marc got right into the heart of what we needed from the project and suggested various design tweaks which made both the assembly and the installation simpler. The project was completed in a very tight timescale and Marc went above and beyond the call of duty to assist us with delivery. As a company, Special Branch excel at accuracy, both in terms of communication and their physical workmanship. The fact that they're lovely guys is just a cherry on top!

Marc of Special Branch Furniture built our storage room/workshop on the side of our house in Hove. I have also seen some of his bespoke furniture projects. In all of his work, his attention to detail is second to none. He is efficient, clear with his communication, hugely trustworthy as well as having a great manner about him. He is impeccably conscientious, leaving the site clean and tidy. He understands your vision and works hard to design and build the project with a creative eye, precision and intelligence.

Marc (Special Branch Furniture) has done several big and small jobs in my house over the last 15 years or so - shelving, fitted furniture, cupboard design stair case and loft work. He is very skilled and creative. He is a perfectionist, and the work is a really high standard - things are designed and made to last, and they do! He is also very considerate when working in someones space - very important to me. I would highly recommend him.

Potters Thumb

A pleasure to have commissioned Marc from Special Branch Furniture. The brief was too create a ceiling to floor modular welsh dresser type shop display to have as a permanent feature in our pottery to sell our products. The design facilitates the opportunity to shape and adapt accordingly if required. We used sustainable sourced timber and worked very close to our budget We will be engaging Marc / SBF for any future projects and comes highly recommended.

Marc and the team have been great to work with, creating a unique and high quality installation for our new building. Throughout the process, they have been diligent, efficient and helpful, with several meetings on our premises and progress visits at the workshop. The installation side of the work was very well planned and executed in less than ideal conditions.

As an illustrator that collects movie posters I had seen that other collectors were turning coffee tables into storage and display units for their posters. Great idea but I wanted something modern and unique. A friend put me onto Special Branch and I'm so happy that he did. Marc was a dream to work with. At every stage of the project I couldn't have been happier. From talking through my ideas and getting a real sense of what I was after to the concept drawings of what he felt would work best for both the use of the table and the space it was going in. Choosing the best materials, having hidden recesses for opening the draws and hidden coasters for moving the table. Marc was the perfect professional but also a joy to talk to and at every stage I felt he was as enthusiastic for the final product as I was. On seeing the finished table for the first time, it really was a WOW! moment for me. It's a thing of beauty the craftsmanship and finish is incredible. It's the first thing people notice when visiting and it's great to see there faces light up with joy. Truly can't recommend Special Branch Furniture highly enough. Top class work from lovely people!

We have used Special Branch for bespoke fitted furniture in our bedroom, lounge, kitchen and office and can thoroughly recommend them. Marc worked with us to understand what we wanted to achieve for each room and produced proposals with clear and detailed CAD drawings for each project. We were able to make changes and suggestions at this stage, and once the final designs were agreed the furniture was built and installed exactly as per the drawings, on time and on budget. All the furniture is well made using quality materials and fittings and will last a lifetime.
