Bath Bespoke

I asked Bath Bespoke to manufacture and install wooden shutters and surrounds to my listed building. It turns out that instead of using wood like I asked, they have used mostly MDF, which does not adhere to the conditions of the Listed Building Consent that I had obtained for the work. Because the job was finished primed and ready to paint, I only noticed this when the MDF started to swell less than 3 years after the job was completed. I always assumed it was wood, as requested, and as advertised on their website. Instead of admitting the error and rectifying it, Tom (one of the directors of the company) has argued and argued that they have used appropriate materials (even though they demonstrably have not) and demanded that I prove that they said they would use wood (even though their website is plastered with marketing for 'wooden shutters' and portfolios of shutters and surrounds 'hand crafted from sustainable timber'). I do not recommend using this company at all, but especially if you live in a period or listed building. Do not be duped by their swish website, the material choices and customer services are poor.

Unfortunately, I can not join the ranks of satisfied customers. We commissioned Bath Bespoke to design, manufacture and install new windows, doors, staircase, wardrobes, utility room furniture and wood flooring throughout the house. Before the start of the project, Bath Bespoke approached my builder and ask him to undertake the fitting of the windows and wooden floor. I believe that they had no fitters available for the start of the project, which resulted in a substantial delay. Although the product design stage was relatively straight forward, we incurred a number of problems soon after. The staircase was 10cm too wide and Tom tried to shift the blame for incorrect dimensions onto the builder. In the end, we ended up with a staircase that had 2 unequal stair rises and one flight being narrow for the space. I was very specific during our initial meetings about the type of floor boards I liked. Once I have chosen the finish colour, I was sent samples which I assumed were representative of the grade and the colour, and at no point was I told otherwise, nor any other samples were presented to me at any point prior to the floor being delivered to the site. Upon inspection, we found the planks had too many knots and were not of the quality I requested. In the end, we had to pay extra for additional flooring. In addition, the floor was laid with noticeable gaps here and there and once again, instead of admitting that this was due to poor workmanship, Tom tried to blame it on excess moisture or some other reason. Some of the windows were manufactured too short for the opening, this is despite Tom criticising the quality of the windows we had at the time of his visits. One of the wardrobes was poorly installed and the finish was less that ideal. 3 months into the project, Tom informed me that they can not manufacture the windows and doors for my orangery, which was a big shock to me since we wanted to have matching windows throughout the house. Just last week, Tom informed me that they no longer use Accoya timber for technical reasons, and therefore legally not required to carry on with manufacturing and installation of the remaining windows and doors. Overall and in my opinion, Tom's behaviour was unprofessional and dishonest at times and I can not recommend Bath Bespoke.
