“I had Universal Blinds install some replacement vertical blinds about two years ago and their service and price were something I remembered. So much so, that when the time came to install all new blinds in my home I call on them, and they did not disappointment. They recommended I switch to more modern horizontal blinds which I did. “I wanted window shades for a new home. I didn’t really know what to choose or how much I should spend. I talked to someone at Design Your Blind about the size of my house, its décor and what I wanted from my blinds. He then pointed out three styles which suited my needs.After I chose my new blinds and put them up, I was really happy with them. They looked great and offered plenty of value for their mid-range price tag. “We are residential architects based in New York City, and have used Madeleine on multiple projects ( well over 10) during the last 15-20 years. She is an extremely talented seamstress and we use her primarily for curtains, roman shades, bed dressings, pillows, etc. She produces excellent work, is 100% reliable, and is fairly priced. On top of all that, she is very easy to work with. I cannot recommend her highly enough. I hope she continues working another few decades!!”

When choosing curtains, consider their function, whether for privacy, light blocking, or decor enhancement. Take into account the room’s style, choosing curtains that complement the overall decor in terms of colour, pattern, and fabric texture. Measure the window accurately to ensure the curtains are the right size and length, considering whether you prefer floor-length or sill-length curtains. Select curtain fabrics based on light-blocking abilities, durability, and ease of cleaning.
In general, your curtains width should be double the width of your windows. For length, this depends on if you want floor length, sill length curtains or below sill. For sill length curtains, they should sit 1cm above the windowsill. Below length curtains generally sit around 15cm under the sill. For floor length curtains, ensure there is at least a 1cm gap between them and the floor. If your window has a radiator underneath it, the curtains should stop around 2-3cm above the radiator to avoid heat being absorbed by the curtain.
Simply measure from where you want your blinds to start (the rail), to where you want your blinds to finish. Add 10-15 cms to this to prevent light bleed. To ensure your blinds fit correctly, take measurements at 3 equal points across your window and use the longest size.
