“The window treatments and bench seating pillows that Mila made for my kitchen are absolutely beautiful. The quality and attention to detail of her work is truly outstanding. I also got her to lengthen some (lined) draperies that I purchased at Pottery Barn...she did such an amazing job I have to tell people that they had been altered and they look absolutely beautiful. She is excellent to work with,and very knowledgeable. I got Mila business card from Mary Jo's fabrics along with three others and after interviewing three others decided to go with her because of her knowlege and professionalism and I am glad that I did. When choosing curtains, consider their function, whether for privacy, light blocking, or decor enhancement. Take into account the room’s style, choosing curtains that complement the overall decor in terms of colour, pattern, and fabric texture. Measure the window accurately to ensure the curtains are the right size and length, considering whether you prefer floor-length or sill-length curtains. Select curtain fabrics based on light-blocking abilities, durability, and ease of cleaning.
In general, your curtains width should be double the width of your windows. For length, this depends on if you want floor length, sill length curtains or below sill. For sill length curtains, they should sit 1cm above the windowsill. Below length curtains generally sit around 15cm under the sill. For floor length curtains, ensure there is at least a 1cm gap between them and the floor. If your window has a radiator underneath it, the curtains should stop around 2-3cm above the radiator to avoid heat being absorbed by the curtain.
Simply measure from where you want your blinds to start (the rail), to where you want your blinds to finish. Add 10-15 cms to this to prevent light bleed. To ensure your blinds fit correctly, take measurements at 3 equal points across your window and use the longest size.
