“As an Interior Designer with my own company I am very critical of who I hire to service my clients, but I was more than satisfied with the quality and service I received from Drapery Affair. They are one of the only drapery workrooms left in Ventura county so you can rest assured that you will get hands on custom service locally and with over 38 yrs in the business there is not anything they cannot do! Not only do they make draperies but have now become Floor to Ceiling Interiors, designing and servicing every part of the home. Their designer, Marie Langlois, helped me to choose just the right fabrics and hardware that not only look great but will wear well. The pieces were finished and installed in a timely fashion with careful attention to detail. Take into account the room’s style, choosing curtains that complement the overall decor in terms of colour, pattern, and fabric texture. Measure the window accurately to ensure the curtains are the right size and length, considering whether you prefer floor-length or sill-length curtains. Select curtain fabrics based on light-blocking abilities, durability, and ease of cleaning.
In general, your curtains width should be double the width of your windows. For length, this depends on if you want floor length, sill length curtains or below sill. For sill length curtains, they should sit 1cm above the windowsill. Below length curtains generally sit around 15cm under the sill. For floor length curtains, ensure there is at least a 1cm gap between them and the floor. If your window has a radiator underneath it, the curtains should stop around 2-3cm above the radiator to avoid heat being absorbed by the curtain.
Simply measure from where you want your blinds to start (the rail), to where you want your blinds to finish. Add 10-15 cms to this to prevent light bleed. To ensure your blinds fit correctly, take measurements at 3 equal points across your window and use the longest size.
