“This was my first ever time commissioning curtains in my first ever house, and I can absolutely say that Sonia Whiteman made the experience a pleasure. I knew nothing about fabrics, linings interlinings, pleats, returns... Sonia talked me through all the options. She measured not once, not twice, but three times, and held my hand through everything, including putting up poles, return hooks and hold-backs. I really can't recommend her highly enough, she is an extremely skilled and careful seamstress, and a lovely person to deal with.”

“A friend who had used Bindu’s services recommended her for our sitting room project. I needed help with choosing curtain fabric to fit our existing sofas and she listened to my requirements and saw curtains and blinds I already had in the house to gauge my style. I love colour and Bindu was great with suggesting colour schemes and fabric. Once I had decided on the fabric which she ordered, she organised new poles which I painted myself, and she also organised the fitting of the poles and took great detail in the final fitting of the curtains which were then steamed in place. I can’t recommend Bindu enough for her ideas, professionalism and general friendliness.”

“Sacha made 2 Roman blinds for my bedroom. She came to visit me with a very large choice of fabrics and to measure for each blind. Ordering was easy and Sacha kept me informed of when the blinds would be ready. The finished products are beautiful, very well made and fit perfectly. I am extremely happy with the service I received and the finished product. I certainly won't hesitate in asking her to make more blinds in the future.”

“This is a small local business where every effort was made to help find the right fabric and style for the right location. The staff were very helpful in helping my daughter to choose blinnds for the children's rooms and lounge curtains with Design Room providing good advice and lots of fabric books to choose from. Previously I have had used them for other rooms in my sons' house as well as my own. The finished products have always been excellent and completed to a high standard. I am already planning to use them for the next room we are about to redecorate.”

“Andrea offered a great service to us from start to finish, she is very knowledgeable about fabric and helped us choose the best type of headings and sizes for all the curtains in our house. The finishes of all the curtains Andrea made for us were brilliant and we have had many compliments from friends and family. When choosing curtains, consider their function, whether for privacy, light blocking, or decor enhancement. Take into account the room’s style, choosing curtains that complement the overall decor in terms of colour, pattern, and fabric texture. Measure the window accurately to ensure the curtains are the right size and length, considering whether you prefer floor-length or sill-length curtains. Select curtain fabrics based on light-blocking abilities, durability, and ease of cleaning.
In general, your curtains width should be double the width of your windows. For length, this depends on if you want floor length, sill length curtains or below sill. For sill length curtains, they should sit 1cm above the windowsill. Below length curtains generally sit around 15cm under the sill. For floor length curtains, ensure there is at least a 1cm gap between them and the floor. If your window has a radiator underneath it, the curtains should stop around 2-3cm above the radiator to avoid heat being absorbed by the curtain.
Simply measure from where you want your blinds to start (the rail), to where you want your blinds to finish. Add 10-15 cms to this to prevent light bleed. To ensure your blinds fit correctly, take measurements at 3 equal points across your window and use the longest size.
