“As a result of a question I posted on Houzz, David Hill of Fenstermann, LLC answered my post and was able to assist me in solving a very unusual and difficult window treatment dilemma all the way from the West coast, while I am located on the East coast! He willingly worked with my local blind installer and kept in constant contact by phone and email to be certain measurements, etc were all correct. “I have hired Maria J. Window Treatments and Home Decor for a window treatment job but I've end up also doing the custom bedding for our master bedroom. Maria sure know what she's doing! I got a good feeling when I had my first consultation with Maria. She patiently and passionately took my through the process and showed me diferent options of styles and prices. When choosing curtains, consider their function, whether for privacy, light blocking, or decor enhancement. Take into account the room’s style, choosing curtains that complement the overall decor in terms of colour, pattern, and fabric texture. Measure the window accurately to ensure the curtains are the right size and length, considering whether you prefer floor-length or sill-length curtains. Select curtain fabrics based on light-blocking abilities, durability, and ease of cleaning.
In general, your curtains width should be double the width of your windows. For length, this depends on if you want floor length, sill length curtains or below sill. For sill length curtains, they should sit 1cm above the windowsill. Below length curtains generally sit around 15cm under the sill. For floor length curtains, ensure there is at least a 1cm gap between them and the floor. If your window has a radiator underneath it, the curtains should stop around 2-3cm above the radiator to avoid heat being absorbed by the curtain.
Simply measure from where you want your blinds to start (the rail), to where you want your blinds to finish. Add 10-15 cms to this to prevent light bleed. To ensure your blinds fit correctly, take measurements at 3 equal points across your window and use the longest size.
Any fabric can be used, but generally the most common types of fabric used are cotton, silk, linen, polyester, and combinations of these due to their lighter weight and insulating properties.
