“We had the good fortune to find Lyn’s Draperies when we were looking for someone to update the window treatments in our living room. We had no idea of what we wanted or of what would work in the room. That was no problem for Lyn. She came out to the house, got a sense of what we had and what we needed, and then proceeded to guide us through the process of finding a style compatible with our home and appropriate fabrics not only for the drapes but for a chair, window seat cushion, and couch cushions. We couldn’t be happier with the results! “We were looking for new blinds for four windows and 2 skylights in our home. Paul from Budget Blinds of Bellingham was personable, professional and easy to work with. We received reasonably priced, excellent quality products. The in-home consultation, ordering, installation and communication were all handled very well. The installer noticed that the mechanism on one of the blinds was "a little stiff", and ordered a replacement without me even having to ask. We recently requested blinds for more windows and are having an equally good experience the second time around.”

When choosing curtains, consider their function, whether for privacy, light blocking, or decor enhancement. Take into account the room’s style, choosing curtains that complement the overall decor in terms of colour, pattern, and fabric texture. Measure the window accurately to ensure the curtains are the right size and length, considering whether you prefer floor-length or sill-length curtains. Select curtain fabrics based on light-blocking abilities, durability, and ease of cleaning.
In general, your curtains width should be double the width of your windows. For length, this depends on if you want floor length, sill length curtains or below sill. For sill length curtains, they should sit 1cm above the windowsill. Below length curtains generally sit around 15cm under the sill. For floor length curtains, ensure there is at least a 1cm gap between them and the floor. If your window has a radiator underneath it, the curtains should stop around 2-3cm above the radiator to avoid heat being absorbed by the curtain.
Simply measure from where you want your blinds to start (the rail), to where you want your blinds to finish. Add 10-15 cms to this to prevent light bleed. To ensure your blinds fit correctly, take measurements at 3 equal points across your window and use the longest size.
Any fabric can be used, but generally the most common types of fabric used are cotton, silk, linen, polyester, and combinations of these due to their lighter weight and insulating properties.
