Alex and Clare helped us with designing changes to the exterior of our house. We had some vague ideas but not the expertise to know what would work either design-wise or technically in terms of materials. Our house was built in 1990 in mock tudor style. The 'mock' beams had rotten and the render needed attention. the windows had been replaced about 15 years ago to match the then mock tudor look. The live, online conversation with Alex was excellent in teasing out our views. Alex followed up with her suggestions and visuals based on photographs we had sent. We then engaged builders and contractors and the project is now finished. We could not be more delighted with the result! The kerb appeal of the house is transformed. The 'piece de resistance' must be the sexy gutters. Not only are they visually attractive, they make delightful, tinkling sounds when the rain falls! I would recommend highly the Back to Front service.

My consultation with Alex from Back to Front is probably the best investment I have made in my house renovation project from a design point of view. All of my expectations were completely surpassed by her expertise, vision, clarity and patience and she has really helped me to fall back in love with this house project which had recently become more of a stressor than a joy in my life. I considered for a while whether to use the service but can honestly say the value and practical advice that I got from the very generous session has been invaluable. I just wish I had done it earlier on in the planning process. I highly recommend this service and would definitely use them again.

Everything, from start to finish, has been exceptional. Alex has so much knowledge and expertise which she shared with us so freely. Communication throughout has been perfect - we’ve always known what stage the project has been at and what’s happening next etc. We have a disabled daughter so her needs had to be considered throughout and some of our requests from the project were a little out of the ordinary. Alex was amazing at taking the time to fully understand our wants and needs and made many suggestions we had never thought of; all the while considering everyone in the family and ensuring it worked for everyone. Nothing was ever too much trouble. We are ecstatic with the final design and cannot wait for it to come to life. Thank you so much to Alex, and all of the team, for being extremely patient, dedicated, talented, creative and positive throughout!

Easter a year ago we downsized to a 1960s chalet bungalow in a stunning location. Living in the house for a while we discovered the design of the house wasn't making the best of the stunning location or the sun. Alex listened carefully to our views, our individual dreams and also wanted to see where we were on the 'home' journey. After quite a few hours on zoom calls and a whole days visit she came up with a profoundly beautiful idea, to create a classical, colonial look with balconies and big sliding doors. This meant a total remodel of the bungalow including a new roof and windows. I thought this a very bold move but made so much sense. We were thrilled with the end design result both inside and outside. Inviting the countryside in, and low maintenance (having come from a very 'high maintenance' home) were priorities. She had listened carefully then tied it all together to put her own imaginatively crafted stamp on it and we begin building soon once the 'bats' have been sorted.

Alex spent over an hour with me discussing all aspects of design from roof, windows and doors to the externals to the house. She clearly has a great eye and years of experience and I would highly recommend her services to others.

We worked closely with Alex for several months while redesigning our home - to - be in Rustington. We were extremely impressed with her professionalism, creativity and empathy. Alex spent a considerable time getting to know us and understanding our lifestyle and needs while injecting imagination and creativity. We initially saw inspirational from the Back to Front website but thought the services were really out of our price range; however, after contacting Alex, who I have to say before I parted with a single penny gave me well over an hour of her time complimentary. This was decided that Alex & Jo were the people for our project. Alex is very much a straight talker; so if you ask for her honest opinion, expect it. That’s what your paying for right? Equally, Alex has a wealth of experience and knowledge that excites and energises the process. Her passion for sustainability, classic and elegant designs is exemplary in her portfolio. We also gave Alex our initial architect’s design and here, she identified a plethora of errors and corrected these before we started our build. Alex’s attention to detail, care, integrity and creativity is really second to none. You are in extremely safe hands with Back to Front and Jo is a delight to liaise with, who sails the ship beautifully. We feel that we got value for our money and so glad we found Back to Front, who has changed our home from a cliché ‘ugly duckling’ into a beautiful individual family home that really does have the ‘wow’ factor. From the outset it was a pleasure dealing with Alex and Jo. The two hours we spent at the studio helped set the ideas for the entire renovation, with invaluable advice about space and materials. We ended up working though a process to achieve the exterior visuals and materials recommendation which was both easy and enjoyable. Alex is adept at being both the friendly professional and the unfalteringly honest if-you-are-asking-my-opinion-then-here-it-is which makes her advice something you want to seek out for all decisions. I cannot recommend them highly enough and am grateful to them for helping us for over a year on and off, and mediating throughout!
