Inside Out Oxford, Bespoke Garden Rooms

I could not speak more highly of Inside Out Oxford and the entire team there. We approached Jim early in 2020 and by the end of the summer, we had a brand new extra room on the house. Our garden has been transformed and the whole approach from Inside Out has been outstandingly impressive. From design to snag the process has been smooth and handled with genuine friendliness. The team that spent most of the time with us during the actual build were the cherry on the cake, a real pleasure to chat to, nothing too small to ask about, and the quality of their craft a joy to behold. After a few years of umming and ahing about whether to give up part of our garden to an outside office, at the start of 2020 we decided to go for it. I am so glad that we did and that we found Inside Out Oxford. These guys were really great. They were quick to appreciate what we wanted to do and were good at thinking through ideas with us to help work out what would be best for us. Despite an initial delay due to Covid-19, they got the job done in good time. There is also no side access to our garden but this turned out to be OK. We've ended up with a bigger garden room than we would have planned ourselves but we are so grateful, and it doesn't make the garden feel small. It works as an office for 2-3 people as well as being an extra entertaining area. The space is flexible and in time could be used for a variety of things. Next step is to sort out our garden. If you've ever thought about a garden office/room then I would highly recommend Jim & Walt and their team Dani & Robin. (note: photos from when it's not quite finished)

Ever since we bought our new house, we have been dreaming about a little hide-away garden pavilion: a place to work and relax, with some lovely plants around. Inside Out Oxford has recently turned this dream into reality. They did an amazing job and it was a pleasure to work with their friendly, professional and reliable teams who, no doubt, have a great eye for detail and good design. They all patiently listened to our half baked ideas and then skilfully transformed them into something more tangible. The construction work was pretty smooth, with only a minor delay due to bad weather in December. The final result has, by far, exceeded our expectations. Thank you Dani, Jim, Richard, Robin and Walter! Now, if this reads as “too good to be true” all we can say is that we have tried hard to come up with something more critical but failed. We are happy to recommend Inside Out Oxford to anyone. You can hardly go wrong with these guys.

We were looking to have a garden room built that would hold both an office and music teaching/ rehearsal space, with the option to use both rooms as one larger space. Jim and Walter worked closely with us to create the ideal building, and from there on the whole process felt very easy because the team were so helpful, professional and friendly. We are thrilled with our garden room, thank you Jim, Walter, Emmett and Amelia.

Absolutely delivered what we wanted, if not more. Friendly, helpful team and a real attention to detail. These guys are the real deal in terms of professionalism and the finished product, plus some really contemporary designs. Their work has transformed our garden and given us the extra space we needed, so we are more than happy customers and yes, would highly recommend them.

I am over the moon with my lovely new studio and I can highly recommend Inside Out Oxford. Jim was exceptional in his thoughtful attention to detail, care and quick turnaround. Overall communication was excellent from the lovely team. The build took a little longer than expected but it was worth the wait. I now have a smart and functional space and I am looking forward to completing the project with new patio and garden path.

I have worked along side Jim & Walt (Inside Out Oxford Ltd.) for the last 4 years and all that i can say is these guys and their team are absolute professionals. So much so that i hired them to build an office studio for myself. Extremely pleased with the results (as i knew i would be). All built within our budget. Keep up the good work.

We found Jim and Walt completely by chance, since they were working on a project in a nearby street. We had been looking at 'off the peg' garden offices for some time, and needed to replace an old shed. Inside Out offered the opportunity to create a completely bespoke build, and have lots of discussions about look and feel, and materials. We now have a very posh 'shed', to house a wine fridge, and a beautiful garden office, with lots of light, floor to ceiling bookcases and a cocktail cabinet. The two buildings fit beautifully into the garden, with a trompe l'ceil mirror making the space look even larger than it is, and monkey bars for our son. In fact, although the build has just been completed, it looks as if it has always been there! Walt, Jim, Emmett and the entire team have been a pleasure to have around, working round our much-loved wisteria and quince tree, and even replanting a pear tree that had to be moved out of the way. If you're looking for something unique that will really enhance your living space, don't hesitate to contact them.

The project was for the conversion of a sad-looking, 20-square metre 1930's brick garage into a home office including a mezzanine level with a staircase and floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. From the outset, communication with Jim and Walt about the project scope, deliverables and costs was excellent. So too was their workmanship and that of their team. Always on time (onsite and with hitting milestones) and very affable. I now get a lot of admirers (of the office...) standing and looking at it as they pass with many commenting on what a fantastic building and space it has become. I would certainly recommend Inside Out to others!

Best thing ive ever done! I love my ‘shed’. I use it all year round and it has made an enormous difference to my life and health ( mental and physical). Excellent workmanship, high quality finish. Lovely people to work with and to have working on my home.

A really good experience with this team: they came up with a very imaginative design for a difficult, sloping site, and created a really beautiful one bedroom house/annex in amongst some woodland. They solved design problems with skill and enthusiasm, and the build itself was painless and very professional. A great level of finish, and all was as promised it would be. Highly recommended. Jim, Walter and team were a pleasure to work with. At all times they were courteous, helpful, understanding, kept to a schedule and supplied a clear cost breakdown. We now have a bespoke garden room (posh shed - sorry Jim!) admired by all.

Jim and Walt and the Inside Out Oxford team are fantastic. In April 2017, I was impressed by a piece in The Oxford Times about Inside Out Oxford which explained their approach and showed one of their garden rooms near the Oxford Canal which had coincidentally already caught my eye the previous year. I had been contemplating how I could arrange for a studio to be built in my garden in place of a 7’ x 5’ garden shed. In May 2017, I asked the team to build a bespoke small studio in my garden, which would not only be functional but which would also be attractive to look at. The plan would need ingenuity to include electrics, sink, small water heater, bench, shelves, allow space for a pottery wheel, be insulated and allow good natural light. By the end of August, I was the owner of a unique working studio beautifully designed and created, at one with the garden and maximising all the available space where once the tiny shed had stood. Nothing was too much trouble for Jim and Walt, who were thoughtful and considerate and who ably carried out extra work which fitted into and were complementary to the whole project - such as the re-location of the shed. A professional team, showing care and attention to the detail of the design and structure to the point of perfection, and all this within an agreed budget and timescale. Quite simply, a dream which came true.

We had the meticulous creation of a garden room, which gives us a shed, workshop and beautiful backdrop to the new garden. Very professional with superb attention to detail. Highly recommended!

We hired Inside Out to build a bespoke garden office in the messy area at the end of a long thin Victorian terraced house garden. Jim, Walt and their team did a great job from start to finish: they came up with a great design that was tailored to meet our budget and needs, they worked hard to complete the project on time and budget and we were delighted with the end result. Our garden office is warm, light, stylish and gets a lot of use as a multi-user space (home office, teenage gaming den, home gym and part-time pottery studio). It was a pleasure having Inside Out in to do the work and we would thoroughly recommend them to anyone considering this type of project in future.

Jim and Walt are both friendly and highly professional. We really enjoyed working with them to develop our initial ideas into a much more fun, exciting and future-proofed building, thanks to the creative partnership they established with us at the design phase. Jim and Walt continued to bring their experience to bear throughout the build, suggesting ideas and different options. The resulting garden room we have now is a unique combination of four different, flexible spaces which continues to be both practical but also makes us very happy.

I couldn't recommend Inside Out Oxford more highly. Our garden room is a delight. During the building period I really came to value a) the way they collaborated with us to ensure we achieved what we wanted and b) the efficiency and professionalism with which the process was managed.

Inside Out were excellent!! I was very happy working with Jim, Walt and the team everyone was very professional and a pleasure to work with. The work was completed to a very high standard and I have really enjoyed using it regularly, it is my happy place! All the finances were very efficiently presented promptly and transparently, and any changes were discussed beforehand and agreed so there were no surprises. I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone who wants a good quality building- that is way beyond your usual garden shed!

We engaged with this firm in Spring 2018 to build us a garden room. We had looked at several 'off the shelf' type options - which are much cheaper - but were disinclined to progress all of these as our feeling was we'd prefer a more bespoke approach. An internet search threw up an article on Inside Out and we contacted Jim for a quote. Best decision we have made. The final building is the antithesis of the cheap standard DIY store product. Jim and Walt spoke to us extensively before starting and drew up plans to give us a balance of living and storage space and a toilet. The finished result is just stunning and shows the value of true craftsmen building from scratch. Yes, we paid more than we could have for other inferior products but the old adage of you get what you pay for is most apt in this case. The works were completed efficiently, on time and in budget. Jim even found us some factory second bifold doors very cheaply mid-project to enable us to have that addition as well. Start to finish on the garden room itself was only about 4 weeks. We are now deriving enormous pleasure from it and we get compliments on it all the time. Well satisfied.

Absolutely delighted with all aspects of working with Jim and Walt. Every bit of the process has been easy.. The design gives us a space that is better suited, and more reasinably priced, than I thought was possible when we started. Their team has been well organised, courteous and visibly competent in all they have done. We would recommend them without hesitation to someone planning a garden room.

We spent ages researching prefab kits on the internet, but after our first meeting with Inside Out, the benefits of their approach to bespoke design became abundantly clear. Great design information (3D models and layout plans) backed up with sit down meetings to discuss design developments (for example inclusion of monkey bars and fireman's pole for the kids, a larger overhang on the roof at the back to create covered storage and double doors on the shed to improve access). During the build we were included in all decision making and were always asked for an opinion which meant we were able to add features and finishing touches. Our new garden room is unique, bespoke and due to its sympathetic design, sits beautifully in our garden despite being much bigger than the shed it replaced - it actually makes our garden look bigger. The kids now have a games and cinema room for all year round use and Dad has the shed of his dreams! All this was for a price that compared really favourably to the prefab options we saw online. If you are looking to invest in a garden room I would definitely recommend the team at Inside Out."

Jim, Walt et al were a pleasure to have around. It was a bespoke project and they were instrumental in the design. They were always polite, punctual and flexible about any minor changes. The final result exceeded all my expectations. The build was completed within the time frame that they stated and they kept to the costings which they gave me. I would highly recommend.

A corner of my garden was crying out for a room.... Jim and Walter immediately saw the potential for the plot, with it's slightly quirky, curved boundary. I knew I had found my team when I saw Jim's delightfully hand-drawn design shaded in pastels... The entire project has been a joy... Over the summer, the room gradually emerged almost organically, as if it had always been there,and belonged.. The boys worked with passion and commitment-and pleasure in their job. This was infectious. By the time the room was finished -complete with small bathroom/kitchen and bespoke,slanted picture windows,we were all equally proud..! My room has been frequently used by family [it's a big hit with teenage daughters..!] and friends alike,since it's completion,and everybody loves it. All in all, a 100%positive experience... I highly recommend Inside out Oxford-they will create a unique addition to enhance any garden.-and provide a useful multi-purpose, all seasons living space.. Thanks boys-I miss you now you've gone...!
