We had an extension built 5 years ago by Dave Burgess and 5 years down the line we are still very happy with the result. His main plus point is I think communication. He lets you know of any problems, eg if not coming on a particular day. He also responds to emails quickly. He is happy for feedback and will take on board in a positive way any suggestions. He ran to time and started when he said he would. Quality of workmanship was very good, especially if done by his own employees, who were also tidy. He tries to use well recommended tradesman.

My wife and I contracted RS Burgess & Sons to carry out major renovations and a large extension to a 4 bedroom late Edwardian house we bought in 2013. The house still had many original features, but the previous elderly owner had not spent any money for years and the building was in a poor state. The alterations and renovations to the main house included creating a master bedroom with dressing room and large en-suite bathroom. A further en-suite bedroom was created on the ground floor, together with a small gym and the shaft and all electricals for the installation of a 2 person home lift. The ground floor walls all suffered from damp, and after specialist treatment RS Burgess replastered and fitted a new central heating system. The main feature of the single storey extension was a 12m x 5m open plan living space- lounge, dining area and kitchen- with large bifold doors. RS Burgess also built a further utility area, including laundry, pantry and wine stores, and a room for all the plumbing and electrical kit. They returned sometime later to build a very large patio at the rear and a block paved drive to the front. The project was carried out to a very high standard. During the modernisation RS Burgess took care to buy and fit doors and skirting in keeping with the original fittings- for example they matched a large tiled floor dating from 1890, and spent 2 days blending them into the pattern! The build quality of the extension was consistently high, and whilst we chose kitchen units, electrical equipment and wood flooring RS Burgess installed them without any issues. Changes and rethinks were few, but those that were needed were handled flexibly. Overall the project was delivered on budget, and a 6 month programme came in just a couple of weeks late.

The site for the build was unusual and challenging, and ideas from all concerned evolved as the work progressed. Dave attended meetings with ourselves, our architect & structural engineers from the start. He introduced us to his plumber, electrician and joiner for discussions about our requirements. We were kept informed on the next stage of the build and encouraged to discuss any queries with the workforce. Thanks to the Burgess Gang!

Our brief to the building team was for a contemporary 21st century take on a traditional country cottage - solidly built, reflecting our personal needs and personality yet blending with the location and environment - high levels of insulation, light and airy yet compact - stylish and functional. From inception, the team worked with us - their creative, cost effective input significantly contributed to the overall design, quality and practicality of the build. We are very pleased to say that the end result more than met our requirements and is a credit to the workmanship and flexibility of the whole team in producing such a wonderful home for us.
