Ian Cook worked great with the Insurance Company and us. The project took almost 18 months with the rebuild of main house and a separate building with studio/carport. Ian was extremely organized his crew were attentive, timely and respectful. They understood when we had difficult days of recollection but kept us moving forward with decision making. We were always consulted with cost saving or improvement options. The whole project was a great success and we are so proud of our new home. If your looking for a Salt Spring Island builder of custom homes who only builds one house at a time and controls costs with sub-trade multiple quotes. Then you should meet Ian Cook.”

“Steve and his crew at Made to Last Building Renovations did the installation of our commercial millwork in the Shaw Retail store in Victoria. The project was very complex containing wood columns, hanging wood bulkheads, oversize wood panels that needed to be scribed to drywall. Steve and his team had no difficulty with this install and executed it to a high level of quality. Communication was really good, they answer their phones when I need to get a hold of them and they are proactive on updating us on the status of the job. We are based out of Calgary AB, so it can be difficult to manage a job from out of town, Made to Last pretty well managed the entire install of the project. Billing and was fair and professionally done and there were no change order surprises. We would most certainly use Made to Last Building Renovations again in the future and are happy to recommend them to anyone looking for a solid, honest, quality oriented contractor.”

“We used Viceroy homes to build our custom home 9 years ago, and were very pleased with the quality of the materials that the company provided and the competitive price for these materials. The wood they use is top quality and they have exceptionally nice windows. They also provide Hardi siding with the building package, and will provide all the materials needed to complete the shell of the home. They do have some excellent designs for a variety of homes, but will do custom home designs. However, if you do a custom design, make sure that everyone understands the plans completely, as there could be some kinks to work out before the home goes into construction. Their customer service was excellent. We have been in our current home 8 years, and have been very pleased with how things have lasted. In fact, due to our positive experience, we are again using them to build another custom home, and once again the customer service has been excellent, and the price for the quality of materials is very competitive. Thus far, the only major challenge we have had is finding framers in our new area who are familiar with the panelized construction that Viceroy offers. Viceroy has offered to be helpful in explaining the process to potential framers, which is greatly appreciated.”

During our build, we were not able to be onsite very often, as we lived in a different province. Heidi and her assistant, Kelsey Ann were very good at communicating with us through the building process, which took 13 months. “Having watched and heard about many renovation disasters we understood very well how important it is to have a good contractor. We chose Best Builders on a recommendation from family who had their renovation done by them. We were, like many considering renovations, looking forward to the end result of our renovation but not going through the process. We had some challenges along the way, as most renovations do, but Best Builders was there to support us through them. For example, we had chosen a countertop for our kitchen and, before it was ordered, we were contacted by Jennifer Best and advised that it was not a recommended product and did not have a warranty. We didn’t know this and thus chose another product that did have a warranty. This is just one way that Best Builders proved that they were looking out for our best interests. All the staff from the sales people, to the office workers through the site supervisor, were informative and personable. The tradespeople both in-house and subcontracted provided a high level of quality and professionalism. The communication during the project was excellent. No matter what the question or problem we had, we were confident that it would be answered or addressed.
