The location is challenging because we are in the middle of a terrace and our garden is only accessible through the house, but everyone worked around this without damaging the rest of the property. The builders also spotted a problem with the plans while laying the foundations and worked out how to rectify this straight away, which definitely avoided costly delays. The extension is professionally finished and looks great. During the work the budget spreadsheet was very helpful as this meant we could keep track of spending each week, see how much we still had to pay, and see the effect of any changes to the overall cost. “Our review of dwell design will hopefully help people who are interested in using the practice for their own project understand how much they do. The team started out by putting sketches together to help us understand what we could do with our new home. Their design documents were really helpful as the photographic examples helped us understand how our house might look when it is finished. When we applied for planning permission we were already quite confident that we would achieve an approval because dwell design insisted on putting in a preapplication request with the council and kept in touch with the planners throughout the eight weeks they took to decide on the outcome. When it came to the technical drawings and getting a price our builder seemed really pleased with how thorough their team were and said that it would help him to make sure that they could price absolutely everything. Because we had a builder in mind for the work we were worried that we wouldn't know if we were getting a good price or not but the team at dwell design checked other prices for other similar projects that their other clients had undertaken and so we knew that we would pay only what we ought to. dwell design also asked our builder to change a couple of things as when they went through his price they spotted some items that weren't as they should be so these were corrected before the work started.
