MTB Architecture
Builders in Olney, Buckinghamshire
Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars30 October 2024
“Super happy with the architectural services Mark provided. He helped us to reconfigure our ground floor to make it accessible for my disabled husband providing several options for us to consider. He was meticulous in his approach, paid attention to detail and our builder was impressed by the drawings he provided. Thank you Mark we would definitely use your services again.”
Appropriate Design Solutions
Builders in Olney, Buckinghamshire
Average rating: 4 out of 5 stars3 January 2023
“Looking to get an extension to my bungalow. I contacted a few initially for comparison. I actually found Chris from the Houzz website. Chris responded quickly, and unlike some other architects, Chris was happy to work in stages and bring in service only when necessary (site survey in particular, and it was not necessary at the end as Chris has enough experience to work on this). As you can imagine, this helps to avoid cost. During the various phases, Chris was very responsive and very patient with all my questions. We have a few, what I would say un-reasonable responses from the council during the planning application. Chris explained the details to me and dealt with them efficiently. The planning was approved and Chris put together the build drawing and able to recommended a couple of very good builders. Unfortunately during the course of approx. 9 months (council mainly, then busy time for the builders, and holidays over the first summer after lock down), the materials price has gone up significantly so I have to park the project for now. It is difficult to capture all the detail but in summary, Chris is experience, responsive, patient to explain the detail and happy to work within my constraint. I would 100% recommend Appropriate Design solution to my friends.”
SEP Design

Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars28 May 2021
“We cannot recommend SEP Design highly enough and thank Svetlana very much for her professional, patient, friendly attitude and expert advice and very hard work in creating for us a perfect architect plan which was accepted by our council. We found Svetlana to be a very good listener who did not forget to plan for even our tiniest wishes and requirements, she spared no time in making sure we were perfectly happy and updated us at every step of the process from start to finish, explaining each step as we went along. No questions were unanswered, and even the 20th modification we thought of were done happily and straight away on the plans. Svetlana also engaged us with Building Control, explained absolutely everything we need to know, engaged on multiple occasions with external parties needed for parts of the modifications we wished for. We are now in the building phase of our large extension and home modification project and the plans drawn up by Svetlana work perfectly. We thank Svetlana for her fantastic help and wish to recommend SEP Design to anyone wishing a stress-free experience on any building project. Kind regards, Mrs Guba”

Builder FAQs
There are several reasons why you should hire a local builder in Olney:
  1. Local builders will be familiar with your local authorities building regulations, being able to advise on any relevant permits you need before work can begin.
  2. Builders near you will be aware of the climate of your area, and can recommend materials and construction methods suitable for your area.
  3. Building firms nearby will provide quicker responses and quotes compared to contractors outside of your local area, as they are nearby, they will often drop in to talk to you about your project and view the property.

For home builders, you will usually receive a quote for a building project instead of daily rates or hourly fees. The cost depends on various factors such as the type of job, builders experience and length of the project.

Expect to pay less for a small maintenance job such as brickwork repair or an extension of an existing wall than a new build project such as a kitchen or bathroom renovation and home extensions. After you’ve found a local builder for your project, speaking with them in detail about your project will help them give you an accurate estimate for the work required.
If you hire a home builder for a lengthy project, such as an extension, your builder may charge a daily rate. You can expect to pay around £350 per day for this. If your builder charges this way, ask for an estimation of how long this will take so you know roughly how much the total cost will be.
You can find a local builder in Olney with Houzz in two ways:

After choosing either option, you can reach out to the builders you want to discuss your project with. You can request and compare quotes before hiring the right builder for you.
When looking for an Olney building company to take on your project, you will want to know that they will be able to handle the job in good time and sticking to your agreed budget. A professional contractor will have worked on projects like yours previously and they will know exactly what to do.

Compile a shortlist of at least three builders in Olney that can handle the full scope of works, either by themselves or through sub-contracting. It is often a good idea to play devils advocate and ask what the builder will not be responsible for. Be wary of unusually cheap quotes. Ask for references and stories about how the builder has met different challenges along the way. If you can, you could try to see previous projects and talk to previous clients, or if not, read reviews, and ratings, and look at detailed photos of projects. All of which you can find on Houzz.
