With a background in photography and after co-founding Skandium, a hub for the best of Scandinavian design, the route into home-design and the ambition to help enhance the space we live in, was a natural progression for Christina. With a love for quality and craftsmanship inspired by the Scandinavian culture and aesthetic we work closely with our clients to understand their particular needs. My wife and I worked with Christina on our utility room and she was brilliant. The space being redesigned was small but very complicated to design and considered thought needed to be given as to how best maximize the space in a beautiful yet efficient way. Christina more than rose to the design challenge. Christina was so hard-working, dedicated and thoughtful and intelligently considered every detail of the project. Taras (the builder with which Christina worked) was equally exceptional and professional. I really couldn't recommend Christina more strongly - working with her was such a pleasure. Christina is a truly exceptional designer.

Charterfield Homes

We are a property development company and Christina was hired at the start of one of our projects for a detached new home. Christians tasks was to suggest all colours for the house, all furniture and decorative elements to make the show home into a home, to be sold as a concept where all elements were to reflect the personality of the architecture. The visual theme had to be consistently convincing. A show home needs to come across as lived in, warm and inviting. What Christina did was opting for well-made furniture and quality in all elements used, to underline the character and standard of the build. Simple well-made pieces adding freshness and an unexpected personal appeal which was beneficial when the house was placed on the market as it sold within a few months. The product was delivered to budget and even though all interior decisions were done from architectural drawings only with furniture ordered when the building structure was barely up, the end result was refreshing and convincing. This project run through the entire lockdown period with many difficulties and set-backs but we made it by keeping focus and determination. We are glad the home sold swiftly and wishing Christina the best of success going forward.

Christina took full charge of our flat refurbishment project. She found and manged builders and other relevant professionals. And she developed the interior design and found and handled delivery and installation of furniture, carpets, curtains etc. and even also smaller items for our home. The result was stylish, consistent and elegant and despite the very difficult supply situation at the time of our project Christina´s tireless effort to get everything delivered and completed secured that our agreed deadline was met. Fabulous job.

The result is that our living space is way more practical, modern and liveable and we are extremely happy with the result. Christina and her colleague completely understood Clare Hall's needs, better than we did, the need to realise Ralph Erskine's original intent preserving its uniquely Scandinavian atmosphere whilst appealing to graduate PhD and post doctoral community as well as our older established academics and visitors. I recently purchased a 5 bedroom house and had it completely refurbished. Christina has been wonderful in assisting me throughout the renovation including colour schemes and textiles which were not part of her original remit. I live in a modern, architect designed house in the Suffolk countryside. The house works well but with its modernity and a lot of glass, it lacked warmth and personality and needed to be made more comfortable and welcoming. Because the house with its architecture is very specific, the interior was more challenging than originally anticipated. Christina has helped me both to re-arrange existing furniture and select the right new pieces to be added for the completion of each space. We chose the wall colour and beautiful light linen curtains throughout the house giving it a warm feel without disturbing the general architectural style. It also needed artwork and this was the foremost reason that I asked Christina for her help. She suggested paintings, both originals and prints that have some vigour about them and make a personal statement and yet are varied and work well together. Christina achieved a great mix of interesting work to a budget and also advised on framing where required and took care of the details meticulously. I am very happy with the results of Christina's work and very grateful to her. I shall enjoy my house for many years to come.

I moved from a Victorian cottage to a 1960s semidetached house in Dulwich. Since the new home was a modern house my perception at the time was, it needs a lick of paint and is ready to move in. Just turned out, there was much more to it once looking closer, so I decided to get help from an interior designer and chose Christina Schmidt from Skandium. We decided a neutral wall colour to suit the character of the house, removed the carpeting from all rooms, replacing it with sisal and for entrance and kitchen floor large tiles in tone with the sisal carpeting. The door handles where incorrect in style for the house so we changed these to a version which was better suited. All radiators were changed to a simple flat version. Woodnotes partitions where installed along kitchen glass door leading to terrace, same Woodnotes style used for roller blind in kitchen. The simple window setting is light and airy with a beautiful, warm material, offering a feel of comfort. The windows in all rooms have simple sheer linen curtains, letting in endless amount of light while framing the room with the softness of the fabric. All bathrooms where completely refurbished. The kitchen is an Ikea kitchen made very considerate by choosing contrasting tiles for backdrop and a wooden counter top adding warmth. I am thrilled with the result. It is neutral and light, suiting the house perfectly and now offers a wide variety of furniture and dressing choices. I can feel the house is smiling and I smile with it, thank you for your help! Christina has worked on three different projects over the past nine years - two London flats and a holiday flat in Spain. She has a wonderful combination of great design sense, intuitive connection to customer requirements and an important budget balance of splash vs save! Christina took a standard large Central London flat and created areas of interest utilizing new furniture, shape from textural elements using curtains, rugs and focused pops of color on the walls, whilst retaining my requirements for a modern and clean look. When this flat was sold my estate agent commented that the design elements added a significant increment to the value of the property. For the holiday flat Christina recommended some amazing outdoor furniture that adds a perfect comfortable lounge effect to a large stone terrace and some amazing indoor pieces that suit a very hot and sunny environment. Clearly I highly recommend Christina and she is amazing and fun to work on all elements of a design project. Katharine Burns

With Christina's considerable expertise and attention to detail we have created a beautiful environment which is a real joy on a day to day basis. This return on a daily basis has made the project incredibly worthwhile. What was really important to us is that she spent a significant amount of time getting to know us and our personalities so that the finished project really reflects us and what we were looking to do albeit with one key difference - it's more imaginative and less "safe" than if we were left to our own devices. There are some wonderful flourishes we would never have thought of. The overall feel is very calming and coherent and that was very much the brief we presented. Another key advantage for us in using Christina was just how much time was saved as her knowledge of what would work and where to source it really short circuited the process for us. Christina completely remodelled our house in London. She has an innate understanding of space and how the flow of a house should work. She chose some excellent pieces of furniture as well as helping me to rearrange existing pieces and artwork. Her colour scheme has drawn the whole house together in a very harmonious fashion. Her impact has been enormous and we feel energised by the results. I highly recommend her.
