We found Inspired Interiors Edinburgh on Instagram. We bought our house in Edinburgh 9 months before our move from California to Scotland. We were impressed with the samples of work we’d seen on online. The service was particularly good for us because it combined interior design with project management to make sure the project delivered what we expected. We loved the designs that were presented, and the final work exceeded our expectations. We heard about Susan through a friend and instantly felt that she had a good eye and a very keen sense of style! She immediately diagnosed some of the problems with our property - mainly with the proportions and arrangement of the furniture and the colour scheme. We had thought to go small with the furniture, thinking that that would make the room look bigger, but actually the opposite was the case in our rooms. And she skilfully brought the proportions of the room into balance with a carefully chosen Georgian colour palate, adding wall panelling to bring character to the rooms, pull the focus down and make very high ceilings cosy but still elegant. It has transformed the impact of the flat. She is hard working, is very good at project management, and I would have no hesitation in recommending her as an interior designer to anyone wishing to maximise potential and the enjoyment of their property. Susan was recommended by a friend. A number of the rooms in my flat were needing a pep up and had been neglected for years. I wanted to inject some colour, soft furnishings and new lighting and generally improve their look and appeal. I didn’t really know where to start or what to do. I have loved the work Susan has done on other Edinburgh flats, she has a flair for design and is very personable and fun to work with. Susan was excellent at taking me through a process step by step, listening to my needs and preferences, helping me to articulate what I was looking for, laying out options but not overwhelming me with too much information all at once. She was fantastic at visualising ideas and options – I am a visual person but not very good at visualising so the options she produced were really useful. Her designs, colour & sourcing selections and styling helped bring it all together. I loved the end to end service – taking an initial very rough idea and fleshing it out, gathering options and selecting ideas on Pinterest to putting it all in place. I was pretty clueless about interior design and styling and Susan brought it all to life for me. It was a really fun process and Susan was there every step of the way, giving me advice and suggestions when I was unsure about which direction to take. We visited a number of stores together so that Susan could get an idea of my preferences for lighting, furnishings etc - it was really helpful to ensure the final design was what I wanted. Watching Susan arrive with a car-load of furnishings to try out and select the ones I liked best was great fun. It was a great approach to take and I was more adventurous in my selections than If I’d gone shopping on my own, seeing different options in situ is very useful. Learning to try new things – you can always take them back if they don’t work. I love the changes that we made, I think it is more reflective of me. I feel proud of my home and am happy to have people round. Would i recommend her services to others? Absolutely – I think whatever stage you’re at Susan has a package of services which will help you bring your dreams to life and perhaps help you figure out/ articulate what your dreams are in the first place.

Edinburgh has always been a favourite city and we have spent many happy weekends enjoying Scottish hospitality and culture. As a result, we wanted something we could use ourselves while also benefitting from the strong holiday rental market. We have known Susan for a number of years and she has previously worked for us and having seen her interior design work, we loved her style and vision for our property. We approached Susan to go into partnership to purchase a property which she could renovate and design. We had a pretty tight budget and Susan was totally pragmatic about that and found fantastically creative ways to achieve the right look for the apartment - traditional and working with the heritage of the building, but funky with some brilliantly quirky pieces of furniture (such as a couple of bass drums to use as coffee tables!) which are great talking pieces. She created a cosy and comfortable space which is perfectly suited to the rental market whilst feeling homely when we stay ourselves. We’re based near London so it was great to be able to leave our Edinburgh home in safe hands and totally benefitted from Susan’s local contractors who created a bespoke bathroom, bedrooms, toilet room while upgrading all the other rooms - the property is almost unrecognisable from the original apartment! Susan’s creativity when it came to furniture choice and artworks also made such a difference and delivered the cosy, warm yet stylish home we were looking for! As well as providing a much loved base for when we stay in Edinburgh, our apartment has been fantastically successful as a holiday home (despite COVID) and has great reviews for its design and style. This has unquestionably had a positive impact on its return on investment. Following Susan‘s excellent service to help restyle and decorate our apartment in Edinburgh, we wanted to apply a similar look and high quality styling to our Ski Apartment in Samoens, France. Although we initially tried to implement this ourselves, we rapidly concluded that we needed to bring in Susan, to help style each of the four bedrooms, and the lounge, kitchen and bathrooms. Following receipt of Susan’s mood boards to provide a guide for each room, we gave her a rather demanding brief! On top of this, we needed help with some awkward limited spaces which needed maximum seating. Understanding the challenges, Susan flew over and was given only 4 days to purchase, procure and install the elements, all from local shops and suppliers. The completed look and feel is a great success. It has lead to significant bookings and rebookings and has had huge positive feedback from all who have stayed in the property. Additionally, it has made our frequent visits such a pleasure - a home from home! We would recommend Susan to others without hesitation. Having seen a few of Susan’s property projects and the style she brings to totally transform the spaces she’s worked on, I wanted her to elevate my average, frankly unloved apartment into something that was luxurious while still feeling cosy, homely, with plenty of personal touches! Having visited the property, we talked about the vision. Susan provided a set of moodboards which showcased her ambition and I was totally on board. To summarise… she met my budget and feel lucky to have benefitted from all Susan’s contacts who implemented all the works needed to now make my apartment a complete show-stopper! What were you looking to achieve before working with me/using my service? I absolutely loved what you have done with similar properties, and the house we had bought was in need of a face lift. Initially, I was hoping to get help with superficial changes, but what you were able to offer went way beyond that and helped me and my family tremendously. 3. What was it that made you choose my service? I noticed immediately that you not only have impeccable taste, but also a keen sense for details and impressive project management skills. 4. What made my service a good fit for you? I found our interactions both productive and very enjoyable. The fact that you took care of everything for us while we still lived in California, and that I felt I could trust that you sourced quality material for the best price, was invaluable. 5. What was the best thing about my service (some examples would be great!!!)? Too many things to list, but; Because of the way you work, with first posing questions and listening carefully to get a picture in broad terms of what I was looking for, and then creating mood boards and drawings of several alternatives, you managed to create designs I could never have come up with myself. You also really went the extra mile to find the right paint colours for every space. I love every inch of our house now! 6. How has my service impacted your interiors/how you live/enjoy your home? It was a fantastic feeling to come home to our house for the first time to see everything having been transformed so beautifully and to such high standard. It was a nice house to begin with, but now it is simply stunning. It is bright and cosy at the same time, somehow. 7. Would you recommend me to others? (and why?) Without hesitation! You are delightful to work with and the result has exceeded all my expectations. 8. Is there anything else you’d like to add? Would be great to just hear any other thoughts/comments! Hiring you paid for itself in a way, because you have great tradesmen on hand, you sourced all materials (which saved us a lot of time) and kept tabs on all costs for us.
