About Us

Khaya was born out of a belief that there is a different way to design interiors - and that the result can still be beautiful. We believe in designing with a conscience - thinking about both the origin and the ultimate destination, of objects and materials. We work with what already exists in a space and transform it into something functional and desirable. Our priorities are both form and function - yes, we want the space to be aesthetically pleasing but we also want the space to work well and be a joy to inhabit. Our style is eclectic, refined and elegant.

Our Process: Design > Development > Project Management 1. First we aim to form an understanding of your requirements and aesthetic vision through the use of moodboards & concept designs. 2. Next we create to-scale fully dimensioned detail drawings of the space, lighting layouts, a schedule of finishes and a specification document. 3. If you would like us to project manage the installation we would meet with on-site installers and co-ordinate site deliveries.

Kate is amazing! She prepared our house top to bottom, craftspeople, lighting, curtains, small decoration details and even bedsheets. We were in Brazil and we literally walked into a house we have never been in before, all set up for us. I’m so grateful. She is organized, down to earth, friendly and very helpful.

Laura Brash

Kate worked with me on refurbishing my Victorian flat in Richmond. She was great to work with, responsive and imaginative. She made excellent and practical choices for paint colours, carpet, wood flooring and tiles, that complemented the flat. She worked quickly to help me meet a deadline within budget, and went above and beyond in researching options. I highly recommend her and would definitely use her services again in the future.

We had a limited budget and needed some insight into making sure that the area we were transforming was being designed in a way that made the most of a small space. Khaya Studio reviewed our ideas and offered some creative solutions to make the space more usable and aesthetically pleasing. It was well worth having that professional touch coupled with our ideas to create something wonderful.

Kate gave me some great advice on how to approach an awkwardly shaped, north facing bedroom. This included furniture placement, warming colours, how to draw more light into the room, and other ways to trick the eye into seeing the space differently. I had spent months thinking about how to deal with these issues, yet in minutes Kate gave me solutions I’d not considered. Approachable and professional I’d definitely recommend.
