About Us

Tia Tian is an innovative and passionate architectural and interior designer who believes in, and pursues, multiple narratives in projects of very different scales, attributes, and contexts. Hardworking and with a deep understanding of humanity and the environment internationally and demonstrates the grasp of her exceptional palette of design techniques. In 2011, Tia graduated with an MA (with Distinction) from SSoA (Sheffield School of Architecture) since when, she has designed a wide range of projects, from a 3 market building design in Darwen to an ecologically sound up-market holiday resort in the North Yorkshire AONB. She has also been practicing as an Interior Designer, creating and crafting upmarket homes, stores and bars in Lancashire and Manchester. The Hybrid Mill / THM is co-founded with locals and is a research-based, multi-disciplinary studio. Driven by design excellence, we are dedicated to creating and designing inspirational spaces/objects for people to use and enjoy. “Art in the north” - THM's mission.

I collaborated with Tia on a project to put forward a sculpture proposal for the Piece Hall in Halifax. Tia is a great person to work with; she works with focus, interest, lots of creativity and flair. Her approach is very professional and she brought all her skills in CAD and 3D rendering to bear on the project. She understands the brief and works to make sure that her solution not only fits the brief but enhances it. Most important of all, I enjoyed working with Tia; she is a great listener, has lots of ideas and initiative and is totally dependable. I look forward to our next collaboration!

Very creatively gifted and totally professional company, The Hybrid Mill (‘THM’) always went that extra mile to make sure that we were completely happy with their services. I have used them to design and plan a new house and found them to be superb from the very beginning right the way to overseeing the completion detail. On budget and on time. Very innovative with lots of 'out of the box' thinking. Comprehensive knowledge of the planning system and all the appropriate building regulations. Very good at speaking and dealing with local planning and building control departments and better than excellent in getting a positive outcome. Made a huge difference to the final result by winning over the planners with innovative modifications. I can highly recommend THM to anyone looking for an absolutely first-class result.

Architecture and building work was something I had not done before and, while I had all the enthusiasm and tools to do the physical work myself, I found Tia at THM easy to work with and very professional, going beyond what was required to turn my loft conversion ideas into a straight forward, practical and trouble free proposition. I wanted to convert our high, Arts and Crafts style roof space into an en-suite master bedroom with other usable rooms under each of the gables. THM gave me very good initial advice about what options were available to me. Then, once we had agreed on an outline plan they were excellent at giving me ideas based on what I had thought but added numerous options of their own. They then gave me clear drawings, including options, to help a smooth passage through building control. They also gave me numerous material ideas and much professional guidance on my future plans for the further development of the property, at no extra cost.
