“KDW provided the design (fixed fee of $2500) for a for a very difficult kitchen remodel in a 1916 Richmond house. The original kitchen was very small, had an awkward breakfast nook added at some point, lowered ceilings, and was adjacent to a small hallway with 4 doors. Tyler Van Rensaeller of KDW created many CAD designs until we found one that worked. His prior experience working on boat design certainly helped. The resulting kitchen is true to the architecture of the house, but very functional with loads of storage, 10 ft ceilings, and an open flow from the DR and FR. Unfortunately, their contractor's price was out of our range, so we chose another contractor, but KDW's design work was the key to the success of the remodel.”

“Classic Kitchens (CK) is simply a class operation. My wife and I have taken on several large home improvement projects over the years, and CK was the best we’ve used, bar none. We used CK in the Fall of 2013 to completely redo our kitchen and to refinish the floors (including those in the kitchen) of our ground floor. Our designer/project manager was CK’s Tom Holton, who’d been recommended to us by a friend. He proved very deserving of that recommendation. He was easy to understand, responsive, frank, prompt and friendly. Tom made what could’ve been a difficult and stressful process into one that was easy and fun. We began with Tom on the floor plan. My wife and I brainstormed with Tom, and then he provided us w/ CADD drawings of our proposed floor plan. After a few rounds of revisions, we settled on a floor plan. And that was that. Then we gave Tom some general likes and dislikes on cabinets. Following our lead, Tom showed us samples at CK’s showroom, we narrowed the options and were able to make a final selection pretty quickly. We followed the same process—talk, review samples (or pictures), decide--with the appliances, countertop material, fixtures, hardware and tile, one step after the other, methodically and logically. No stress. Once the design choices were completed, we moved to scheduling the job. And it began on time. The work was, naturally, somewhat disruptive to our daily life, but CK worked to minimize that by flexing schedules. The work was done by both CK’s in-house team & by CK’s subcontractors. (Every one of the subs was good: timely, competent, professional and customer-friendly.) Either way, Tom stayed on top of the project, pushing to keep it on schedule, while also keeping us abreast of progress & developments. As a result of Tom’s continued presence and communication, there were no surprises for us or for the subs. The project came in on time and on budget, both adjusted as circumstances changed and as were regularly communicated to us. My wife & I are delighted w/ the final product, our new kitchen. The reviews from family & friends have been unanimously very positive. We recommend Classic Kitchens very highly and hope we have the opportunity to use them again.”
