The Sharper Cut, Inc. Landscapes
Morningside, MD Landscape Architects and Garden Designers
19 Nov 2012
“I've used Sharper Cut to develop the gardens in front of the house, terrace the front garden for a level field for the trees, bushes, plants and waterfountain, and build out the back garden to include and expanded patio and fishpond with waterfall. Their work is superior...and helps give the house a more inviting exterior view to family and guests. I'd recommend them for any project great or small...and they can tailor the project for future growth based on your budget!”

“MLA was hired to completely re-do our back yard in our Capitol Hill row house. They did a wonderful job. They were prompt, courteous, and provided thoughtful and creative concepts. They followed through with meticulous drawings, recommended contractors, and provided supervisory service when necessary. Highly recommended!”

“Aaron and his crew at Greener Side designed and implemented a renovation of our backyard. He worked patiently with us to get the look we had envisioned while making recommendations for plants and placement of plantings. To correct a water problem he installed a beautiful stacked stone wall and a slate walk area leading to the yard. GIven the obvious weather restrictions our project went smoothly. Aaron also had the contractors needed when we decided to fence in the yard, build a shed, and install an irrigation system. We feel comfortable knowing that anything that needs adjusting will be done so happily. An obvious plus is Aaron's character and integrity. I highly recommend The Greener Side Lawn and Landscaping!”

“I knew of her reputation as a passionate landscape designer by word of mouth, and asked her for some input aimed at resolving a drainage problem. Her response was both highly effective on a problem solving level, and as an added benefit, on an aesthetic level. As the years pass, her design seems to wrap itself around us like loving arms. I recommend her without reservation. Clifford Wheeler”

“I so enjoyed working with each member of the team at GardenWise, throughout our project -- good listeners, professional, kind, and responsive, not to mention talented and creative designers with excellent problem-solving approach, and terrific craftsmen. Estimates and budgets were accurate. The attention to detail and commitment to quality were superb - - even re-doing something I had said we "could live with" but they could not! That really, really impressed me. The project included a new driveway, lots of stone wall work, a new patio, water feature, and several new and renovated planting beds. I am eager to see how the plants 'return" in the coming summer and how they mature to fulfill the envisioned design.”

“Laura designed a landscaping plan for our new home. She was very thorough in her discussions with us, taking the time to learn about what we were looking for in terms of style, appearance, cost, and up-keep. She also happily designed to meet our jurisdiction's storm-water requirements related to the number, type, and spacing of trees. She easy to work with and we love the plan she designed. I would highly recommend her.”

“We hired Northview Design to provide designs for our backyard which needed a total transformation. We were given 3 designs for the backyard and a design for the front yard. We absolutely loved the concepts and opted to do both the front and back. We were thrilled with the quality of the workmanship of our new flagstone patio, stone retaining wall, outdoor stone fireplace and new wooden deck. The stone walkway and new driveway added style to the front of our house. We even won a City Beautification Award! The designer was very present and attentive during the project and her contractors and installers were wonderful-on time and maintained a high level of professionalism. The company stayed on budget and completed the project in a timely fashion. We had an outstanding experience.”

“First met Molly Scott several years ago when she was with another landscape design company. Our project involved designing and building a fish pond and the associated landscaping. The results were awesome. Molly is now helping us replant the portion of our yard that was denuded by the recent derecho. She is reliable, responsible, and full of great ideas. She is also mindful of your concerns. On top of that, she's a delightful person, and I always look forward to her visits.”
Patrick Murphy Landscape Design

“Working within some pretty tight constraints, Patrick was able to incorporate not only our personal design aesthetic, but to also blend our townhouse's front yard into the neighborhood's tone, while still differentiating it. We didn't want the typical ivy-covered space you see in much of our area. And we didn't want to give it over to brick paving with no green space. Our house is very symmetrical and the front is deeply sloped. Add to this the fact that we're not talking about a lot of space to work with, so whatever is there has to be deliberate, to scale, and not clutter, while also creating a sense of space and a landing for entry to the house. It was not an easy site to deal with from a design point-of-view, especially given our more "rustic" aesthetic and the very straight lines of the house, approach, and all the "perpendicularity." After looking through my Houzz and other clippings and a few conversations, Patrick brought a sketch of his ideas, and I would say that the final product did not differ much from that preliminary design. He was able to zero in immediately on what would and would not work on the site, and for us, and came up with a softened approach, with seating space, green space, the rustic aesthetic we prefer, and something that people still stop and look at and study! In fact, several of our neighbors have retained him to do similar designs in their front yards. In addition, we asked him to redesign our side yard, a sunny, south-facing space of about 8' by 30', completely taken over by ivy and vinca. We wanted raised beds for planting and I had my heart set on a horse-trough planter, not at ALL "fitting" to the neighborhood. Again, what he came up with is so "us" and so fun and so easy to work in and live with, it's the best part of our house! And it's different, but not sticking-out-like-a-sore-thumb different—rather, it's refreshing! People seeing it for the first time say things like, "Oh my--LOOK at this! How very cool! What a neat space!" We're so hooked and like his work so much, we're starting to think about the "last frontier," our back patio area—a REAL challenge. We face an apartment building and alley, so privacy is a major issue. We live on our back porch pretty much eight months of the year, and again, we want space for plants, storage, and just breathing room. Patrick will have his hands full with this project, but I'm not in the least worried because I know what he comes up with will both surprise and delight...and be spot-on to our needs and tastes.”
