Having completed a full rebuild/refurb of our new house, we appointed Emma in late 2020 to redesign the front and back gardens from scratch, which she saw through to completion in summer of 2021. This was a 25mx5m back garden and 5mx5m front garden of a Georgian terrace house in Stockwell, that had plenty of potential but was somewhat 'unloved'. As novice gardeners we needed someone to unlock this potential and transform the garden into somewhere where we could both relax and enjoy, with great entertaining space for friends and family, but relatively little ongoing maintenance. Emma was an absolute pleasure to work with from start to finish. In the initial meeting she asked all the right questions (most of which we hadn't even thought of!) and then delivered a fantastic design pack that seemed to think of every last detail and perfectly matched the brief. She came up with many beautiful design elements (bespoke ironwork, water feature, living wall), and identified materials and suppliers who we wouldn't have come across without her advice. As for the right plants we wouldn't have known where to start, so her expertise and experience of what would work was invaluable. Once the build started she provided all the necessary guidance and expertise to ensure things progressed smoothly, and was always on hand to offer advice when needed, guiding the landscapers to deliver work of the highest quality. Emma also organised and planted all the plants, taking account of the access challenges the garden presented. Quite simply we could not be happier with the end result. We have a garden we could only have dreamed about if it wasn't for Emma and her team. We are very grateful for her hard work, professional approach and guidance, from that first meeting all the way to the detail provided in the handover documents at the end, as she had thought of everything. I’ve really enjoyed working with Emma O’Connell Garden Design on several projects. Emma came up with the most fabulous design for our front and back gardens. She listened to what we wanted from the gardens which was important, and came up with a realistic design. Her belief in recycling also fits with our ethos so we now have a mix of old garden and new which works incredibly well. In particular, for our back garden which is tiny, she put it into zones (seating area, play area for the children and BBQ zone) which makes it feel so much bigger. She designed a lovely cedar bench which we just love as do our children! It beautiful structurally. Aftercare was also super- a walk around all the plants with paperwork on how to care for them and a video also. Thank you Emma!

Emma was absolutely brilliant in all aspects – from carefully listening to our needs and getting to grips with the brief, coming up with a brilliant design, sourcing the materials and honing our vision further. Our dark, damp and unattended garden was transformed into a beautiful modern, purposeful and bright outdoor space, which acts as our outdoor living room. Emma was recommended to us by a neighbour, and we are so thankful for it. We wanted to bring a tropical feel into our small suburbian London garden. We had several people round before to quote us for the job and weren't happy with any of them, mostly because they didn't understand what we wanted or give any confidence in what we were going to get. Emma took the brief and took it to another level. She knows what she's talking about, doesn't cut corners and truly has a passion for delivering the best. We don't often recommend people as we have quite high standards and unfortunately they are rarely met, but I would 100% recommend Emma and have already booked her in to do the front garden in the Spring.
