I have been a professional garden designer since 2001, undertaking private commissions in Surrey and SW London. Having studied Garden Design at Merrist Wood College, gaining a Diploma with Merit, I have designed gardens ranging from tiny urban courtyards to large suburban properties, in both contemporary and traditional styles. Two of my gardens have won awards at RHS Hampton Court Flower Show; a Silver Gilt and a Gold medal. While my designs are strong, they are also sympathetic to their surroundings, and my planting solutions reflect 25 years gardening experience. I enjoy transforming drab spaces into beautiful, practical and sustainable gardens that enhance my clients' lives. Offering a range of services including initial design, planting plans, construction drawings and plant maintenance advice, I can also recommend a landscaping team who will turn these plans into reality. My designs are carefully tailored to fit each client's specific needs, and my service is both professional and friendly. Above all I enjoy working closely with clients to achieve their dream garden.

Helen incorporated all of our requirements into the design of our garden. Following a detailed inspection of the plot Helen provided good working plans of the layout, enabling us to be hands on in building the project. The final plans were accompanied by extensive planting lists enabling us to source the correct plants for our environment. Our project cost below is for Helen's work together with materials etc. A very professional approach yet friendly and accommodating. Thank you Helen.

We employed Helen Williams to redesign our suburban front garden. We wanted a bee friendly, low maintenance garden which enabled off street parking for two cars. We were very impressed with Helen's approach to garden design and her detailed knowledge of plants. Helen supervised the construction of the garden and her design was implemented to the letter! The garden has matured beautifully and is maintained with minimum effort on our part. Visitors always comment on how beautiful the garden looks when they arrive at our house.

We employed Helen to re-design our garden. Helen worked with us to define exactly what we wanted and then came back with a brilliant design including a lawn area, raised beds, a herb garden, pathways and lots of seating areas. We even managed to get a trampoline in the garden and Helen did a fab job of hiding it with trellising. The great thing about the design is that flowers and plants come into flower at different times of the year making sure there is always colour in the garden all year round. Helen is amazing at identifying plants, not only with their common name but also their Latin as well which is pretty impressive. I would highly recommend Helen as a garden designer, her designs are well thought through and she is a pleasure to work with. 4 years on the garden still looks fab, everyone comments on how good it looks and we love spending time in it!

Comment from Helen Williams Garden Design:
Thank you for your kind words. One of the most important things about designing a garden is that it should suit the individual families' needs; adults and children. I am glad you are still enjoying it, and that the garden looks good after 4 years (where does the time go?!)

I employed Helen Williams to design my garden from scratch as the final stage in renovating a run-down Edwardian house which I had recently bought. The narrow and bleak garden has been transformed totally into an area of colour and interest, which now looks so much larger. I am absolutely delighted with the outcome (and the garden has been much admired). There was the initial stress of finding a garden designer from web searches and budgeting for the project including construction. Having decided to appoint Helen the process then flowed smoothly. She explained at the outset clearly and accurately the stages, and her fee structure. I felt confident about placing my trust in Helen's expertise in that we spent necessary time discussing my requirements, she listened, asked appropriate questions, made suggestions and came up with lots of ideas. At no point did I feel railroaded into one particular design; in fact I really enjoyed the overall process and learning about the art of effective garden design. For me Helen's design was imaginative and exciting within the parameters of the shape/ size of my garden and budget. Her planting plan and involvement during the construction enabled the design to translate smoothly into the reality of a garden that quickly appeared mature. For photos of my garden 'before and after' please see her website under Thames Ditton project.

Commented: Covered over areaIt was a removable canvas shade sail. They work well but need to be placed carefully to get the shade when you need it.
