Lynn Hill Garden Design

I have been absolutely delighted by Lynn’s work and can wholeheartedly recommend her. From the early stages of the project, I have been impressed by her ability to capture and articulate my aspirations for the garden and throughout the process I have found her extremely helpful and professional. We teased and adapted her initial draft plan to create a design which combines functionality with aesthetic good looks and she successfully tied the garden into the architecture of the house. Her extensive knowledge and experience ensured that every detail was considered and agreed before any work was undertaken. Her recommendations for companies to undertake the hard landscaping ensured a high quality of workmanship. The planting plan captured my thoughts and benefitted hugely from Lynn’s horticultural knowledge and flair for creative design. I now have an enhanced outdoor living space and attractive planting which has made the garden one of the favourite parts of my home.

Lynn provides a thoroughly professional service and has the patience of a saint. We were on a tight budget, so she worked with us to try to reduce costs as best she could, while trying to minimise changes to her design. She has great vision and an eye for aesthetics. She recommends quality products that will last the test of time, keeping your garden looking great for years to come. She was always punctual and replied to our emails and telephone calls promptly. I would have no hesitation recommending her services.

I approached Lynn to help me improve my garden by looking at it with her professional eye. Within the existing shape and layout of what was already there she took out old planting, introduced new planting and suggested the replacing of old fencing with new which was not only more efficient but instrumental in giving a fresh feel and character to the garden. In addition, I wanted some kind of garden object or ‘piece’ in memory of my late Mother and she sourced exactly the right thing, recommending a glass structure that was just perfect. All her advice came from her focused listening as well as from her own observations of my surroundings, both indoors and outdoors. Lynn discussed everything thoroughly, got back to me promptly when I emailed, kept to budget and dealt with everything in a calm and professional manner. I would not hesitate to use her services in the future and am happy to recommend her to others.

I cannot rate Lynn highly enough. She designed the garden according to the brief, kept it on time and within the budget we stated. She went above and beyond to ensure that we understood the implications of the design, kept the contractors on task and dealt with them effectively and professionally when a problem occurred. She kept us in the loop at all times, no nasty shocks and everything was smooth, professional, on time, within budget with knock out result. Simply the best.

We had some ideas about what we wanted in our garden but Lynn helped bring these ideas to practical fruition ! She organised the contractors for the hard landscaping , and for electrical work , advised and sourced the plants we wanted and talked us through what would work in our garden. There were particular challenges such as some of the borders being very shallow . Lynn is very approachable, and easy to work with and i would certainly highly recommend her .

I commissioned Lynn to re-imagine our garden after extensive building work had destroyed much of our garden. We knew it would be a challenge as the garden is multi level and sits on a hill. We wanted to keep our existing trees which placed restriction too. One of the things I really appreciated with Lynn was that she just 'got it'. From our initial conversations, Lynn took time to get to know us, our taste and our lifestyle so that she could take these things into account. Lynn is very observant and quickly picked up my love of vibrant and mixed colours in a garden as well as unusual plants. However, she was also able to dissuade me from having a chaotic planting scheme - for which I am very grateful. The garden we now have is perfect. Lynn designed a fantastic wall to separate the levels which is multi purpose. My kids love playing on it and jumping off it, and it also serves as additional seating when we have friends around. We used recycled stone from old outbuildings which were demolished in our renovation. This helps to pull the new and old together as well as keeping the feel of a mature garden, with our older trees. Lynn created a quiet, aromatic space for reading, a large entertaining area and enough lawn for the kids to tire themselves out on. She also designed beautiful steps leading the eye up to a focal plant, framed by a stunning wall. Lynn worked with the plants we had managed to salvage, and introduced me to exciting new plants as well as incorporating some of my favourites. Lynn is exceptionally patient and clearly knows her plants. Her design skills are exceptional and she has made our family fall in love with the garden - from non gardening husband to my inquisitive and now flower obsessed four year old. Lynn always met deadlines (even when she snuck down to Chelsea!) and is so personable. Her blend of knowledge, professionalism, expertise and humour make her a joy to work with. She has great contacts too and introduced us to excellent third parties to carry out the hard landscaping. I can't recommend Lynn highly enough. I expected someone stiff and distant. Lynn is neither. I have learned so much about gardens from her and am so excited to watch my new garden bloom through the seasons of 2017 with my husband's new appreciation of gardening.

We moved to a property with a large garden, most of which was part of a field, which our predecessors bought from the local farm. We have tremendous views, but the property and garden are very exposed and windswept. The size of the space (all rough grass) was quite daunting, and seldom used, and we didn’t know where to begin to start turning it in to our ideal garden. Although I hadn’t previously considered using a garden designer, I didn’t have an overall vision for the garden and was struggling to imagine it in any other shape or form, so we decided to get some help. Lynn met with us and spent time finding out what we wanted from our garden, what we wanted to use it for, what sorts of plants we liked, how much time we wanted to spend gardening etc. She then came back to us with some ideas, and suggestions about what we could do, and then provided us with a draft design. We were amazed at the amount of information Lynn had gleaned from us, and how she had taken all of this on board when coming up with a garden design for us. Lynn’s ideas have centred on our wishes and likes, and she has used her knowledge and creativity to come up with a lovely design to give us a garden fit for all purposes and occasions that we want. Lynn’s friendly and professional approach has turned this daunting project in to an enjoyable venture! Her inspiration, enthusiasm and love of gardening is infectious and her interest in our garden, and its development, is very genuine. As a result the garden has progressed more quickly than we ever imagined, and it has been (and still is) a pleasure to see it change and grow, month after month. We have no hesitation in recommending Lynn - without her, we couldn’t have made this happen.

I asked Lynn to give me some ideas for my garden, which is in the process of being altered alongside making changes to my house. There were some quite technical aspects involved e.g. making a patio to go outside of some new French doors. Lynn was very knowledgeable and helpful about building regulations, and gave us a new perspective on how we can create a patio that we will both be happy with. Lynn also looked at he garden as a whole, and got us thinking about the views, focal points and screening neighbours and hiding unattractive areas. All in all we were very happy with the ideas that have come together now, and we feel we can move forward without making costly mistakes. I would strongly recommend to anyone thinking about making changes to their garden to consult with a garden designer, as you will save money and be happier with the result in the long run.
