David developed a concept for the small garden of our London terraced house. The brief was to completely reimagine the space, doing away with our lawn, to increase planting areas and create different zones for the garden. What David presented, blew us away. It factored in all our requirements and then added wonderful details that we could never have envisaged or have even heard of. It has left us absolutely desperate to get going and make it a reality. The process has been brilliant from start to finish and we look forward to working with David on the next steps!

Our property was a new house with a sloping grassed area and small patio on a corner plot. David visited our house and listened to our ideas for a new garden and came up with functional mixture of grassed areas, two patios and a small courtyard opposite patio doors. He introduced steel retained planters and sandstone steps to deal with the slopes and a mixture of sandstone paving and clay herringbone block paving for hardstandings. He added ornate trees and planted the entire area. His eye and attention for detail and quality was exceptional and he was extremely pleasant to deal with as was his team led by Mick. He added a lighting scheme and irrigation. We remain extremely pleased as the garden matures and would recommend David’s team for his designs and ideas, level of detail applied and quality of the work which was exceptional.

David has a keen eye for detail and his designs really stood out for us with their originality and creativity. We were impressed with his communication throughout the whole process – from his concept plan to the final implementation. David is extremely personable and has completely transformed our garden. David at Pen & Barrow took the time to listen to our requirements - providing a comfortable, shaded space in the sunniest spot in our garden for relaxing and entertaining. He was happy to amend and finesse designs as the project progressed. As a result, we are delighted that the large oak gazebo paved with natural stone and shaded by newly planted trees is large enough to accommodate an outdoor kitchen and seating and dining area but is set to the side of the garden and does not dominate the area but meshes perfectly with the existing mature garden. The subtle uplighting of the surrounding trees and shrubs has magically transformed the space at nighttime meaning we’ll definitely linger in the garden in the warmer weather. Additionally, David’s team are efficient, pleasant and conscientious. We would (and have) recommended Pen & Barrow to our friends for similar projects.

Really great design, flexible to work with, proactive, lots of ideas for materials to get a good, modern look to the garden. Lovely planting plan, well put together budgets which helped manage costs.
