Bespoke Garden Design across Hampshire and Surrey
page_type: prop_plus_profile
My horticultural career started over 20 years ago. I began in the nursery trade where I first began to gain experience with plants and plant husbandry. Since then, I have expanded my knowledge with qualifications and many years working as a professional gardener and landscape designer.
Alongside my design work, I am the head gardener for a large estate near Winchester where I continue to experiment with new ideas. Plants are my speciality but they are only used as part of a cohesive design that looks at all aspects of the project. Over the years I have worked on a variety of different projects, which include creating and maintaining wild flower meadows, designing and building gardens for new build projects (from smaller plots to country estates) and enhancing well established gardens.
I am able to use my extensive knowledge of maintaining gardens and the wider landscape to create spaces which are beautiful, yet simple and easy to maintain.
Often I see gardens that require far more maintenance than is necessary. With careful selection of plants and materials, a stunning garden can be created which does not require unnecessary high inputs of labour.

We were very fortunate to be able to pluck Roeder Landscape Design Ltd from their very busy schedule to give our garden a makeover during February 2021. We are absolutely delighted with the results.
Luke (the owner) not only met our expectations with his thoughtful design proposals, but he also exceeded our plans with suggestions and experience that made better use of the outdoor space we have.
In addition, he also only recommend plants and materials that suited our particular lifestyles. Luke was also not afraid to suggest better alternatives to our ideas and back it up with solid reasoning.
Our garden was transformed during a national lockdown, but Luke, Chris and Alex were punctual, polite and kept their social distance throughout the entire renovation. They even kept their high spirits and professionalism and more impressively positivity during high winds, heavy rain and even frozen solid ground and minus degree weather. Everyday they neatly packed away their tools and at the end of the project they left only footprint. Kudos to them!
We’re very much looking forward to spring to enjoy our garden and cannot recommend Roeder Landscape Design enough to anyone.

Luke designed and delivered beyond expectations. During difficult times around procurement of materials with COVID 19 Roeder adjusted their schedule of work to ensure minimal disruption. This is just one example of many where Luke time and time again displayed utmost consideration to meet our needs. This empathy is rare in the building trade. Would recommend without hesitation!

The project was renewing the patio in a Grade 2 listed house. Luke clearly has a keen interest in old properties and how their gardens etc can be improved. The same applies to the three staff who also worked on the project. It was a real team effort.
Luke gave us a detailed breakdown of costs at the outset and stuck to it.
Luke made suggestions for future projects at our house without being in the least pushy. We were given ideas for future improvements which we will consider at our leisure.
We enjoyed having Luke and his team at our home and felt comfortable leaving the house in their care when we had to go out.
I would be happy to recommend Luke to others and to let prospective customers see what he and his team have done for us

Luke was recommended to us by our landscape gardener because we were struggling to come up with a plan for our garden. Our garden was very much a blank canvas just laid to lawn with a number of challenges because of the shape, varying levels and being north facing. From our first meeting with Luke he has been a pleasure to work with. He took the time to get to know us and find out how we intended to use the garden. The plans provided by Luke were clever, innovative, very exciting and exceeded expectations of what we thought could be done with the garden. Throughout the whole process from planning to completion Luke has provided a consistent level of support and assistance which included project managing and working with the landscaper. In addition to providing a garden design Luke also provided a planting plan which he completed with his team. We would highly recommend Luke he's turned our garden into a space that is now fully functional and a pleasure to have.

We initially commissioned Luke to provide us with a design-only service for our back garden. Our main goals were to create more useable space and a low maintenance, yet attractive, space for our growing family. Luke took the time to get to know us and our requirements, and this paid off, as his first design hit the spot in terms of being precisely what we were looking for (despite years of prior procrastination over this on our part!). Luckily for us, Luke and his team had availability to complete the work within our timescales and, despite the epic challenges of the COVID-19 lockdown, delivered our dream garden. Luke was highly resourceful in sourcing materials during the lockdown period when his suppliers closed down. Luke was a pleasure to work with, patient and played a hands-on roll in terms of overseeing the project, which was very reassuring for us in terms of knowing that the finished result would match the initial design. We are thoroughly thrilled with our garden and are looking forward to many years of enjoyment ahead.

Just over 3 weeks after our initial consultation Luke arrived with the plans. Throughout the process he was prompt, very professional and personable. He gathered relevant information, integrated this with practical solutions whilst gently steering our ideas and ultimately came up with a great plan with a couple of options. It was a pleasure working with him. Can't wait for the plan to become a reality now!

We were lucky enough to be introduced to Luke by another landscaper who was using Luke’s services to design and plant some borders around a newly built patio area. We liked him and his approach so much we contacted him directly to ask him to carry on the excellent work and help us transform the rest of our garden. We are delighted with everything he has done. He is very attentive to his clients’ wishes, his knowledge of plants is amazing and he is professional, reliable and a pleasure to work with. We will continue to develop our garden with Luke and have no hesitation in highly recommending him.

Excellent knowledge of plants to suit even the most challenging conditions. We continue to use him. He and his team of builders are amazing and work in all conditions and always deliver on time.

I am absolutely delighted with the results of the project Roeder Landscape Design have just completed for me. It was a real challenge for Luke to reconcile the constraints of a very small town garden with the demands of a client (me) who was full of ideas about what I wanted. Luke really listened to what I had to say, asked questions that made me think and came up with a design that incorporated the essence of everything I wanted in a way that really works. The team who carried out the work were great to have around and Luke was very hands throughout the project. The result is a peaceful, colourful, scented haven which I know I will enjoy for many years to come. I can't recommend Luke and his team highly enough.

Luke is a pleasure to work with.
He has transformed a multi-level , unusable area into a stunning pond within rolling contours and a beautiful terrace and steps. He has a deep knowledge of planting and we are very excited to see the result , this coming Spring and Summer. I would like to commend his hard-working team, who were also a pleasure to have around. We will post a photo when the seeding and plants have had a chance to establish.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, I really appreciate it.
We all enjoyed working on your project, despite the heavy clay soil!
I am really looking forward to coming back and seeing the pond, planting and wild flowers develop. It was also nice to work with concrete in the way that we did, to create something unique and in keeping with the rest of the garden.

Luke Roeder is a creative, knowledgeable and practical landscape gardener whom I have no hesitation in recommending. Always full of ideas, he's also willing to take into account his clients' own likes and dislikes and to adapt his plans accordingly. He's equally adept at working to an agreed budget whilst maintaining high standards of workmanship throughout a project and beyond. I have employed Luke and his staff on various projects during the last year and have always found him (and them) to be friendly, cheerful and courteous - in short, a pleasure to work with.

I hired Luke to help design and plant 7 new flower beds. The challenge was to incorporate natural looking plants for a damp partial shaded site with a slope, whilst also blending the planting into the existing established garden and woodland. We couldn't be happier, great selection of plants researched and recommended by Luke ( plants I had not heard of), the planting style was completely appropriate for the site and the plant quality was excellent. When they finished, the garden was immaculate and you wouldn't have known they had been working there, the site was left spotless. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Luke. Excellent work.

Luke Roeder has designed and over-seen the planting of our 3 acre garden/'blank canvas'. There was absolutely nothing there except undulating ground and rough grass.
He worked with us to interpret and refine our ideas, producing very comprehensive plans with great planting ideas to include colour and variety far beyond our imagination.
Luke's plans reshaped the ground to include flat lawns with rough grass areas beyond, divided by both conventional and original hedging, topiaried trees and elegant borders.
The shrubs, perennials, trees and hedging plants supplied by Luke are of excellent quality and very reasonably priced and arrived swiftly followed by Luke, who placed and planted them giving us precise feeding and pruning instructions for the future.
Luke is always available by telephone, or email, with advice and instruction. His enthusiasm and knowledge is awesome.
I would highly recommend his company for any gardening project, small or large.

Luke worked for me at Cleeves from 2004 to 2014, when we sold the house. Previously we had used contract gardeners who added little value. With Luke we developed the space into 10 separate garden ares: a formal flower garden, a formal vegetable parterre, an orchard / soft fruit area with wild flowers under the trees, a spring glade under mature trees, a lower lawn with flower beds, an upper lawn with flower beds and a front garden with shrubs and trees. There was a,so a conservatory to keep floriferous. The beds were manured, mulched and weedless, shrubs, rhododendrons, etc. were fed and shaped, the lawns were striped, the fruit and vegetables were excellent and, in the last 3 years, the garden was included in the national Gardens Scheme and attracted many visitors. Luke had designed a number of the beds as well as master minding the wild flower planting. We have now downsized to a new house with a small garden. Luke has been responsible for the design, soil preparation and planting. This is only our second spring in the new house, but friends are astonished at the progress we have made.
We were very fortunate to find Luke in 2004

It was a delight to do business with Luke Roeder . We had a blank canvass small garden to create and he worked very well with our hard landscape contractor and had a number of meetings wih us to create a planting scheme. His knowledge is impressive which combined with our' wants' achieved a very attractive interesting layout. The presentation of the scheme was very professional and all of the work was carried out exactly as arranged .
A year on we are now enjoying a rapidly maturing garden whch we love but is keeping us very busy !

We have employed the services of Luke from Roeder Landscapes over the past two years in planting up new beds, a small orchard and for lawn maintenance We are very happy with the results. His designs took full consideration of our ideas and built on these with further options taking into account soil conditions and aspect. Great attention was paid to bed preparation prior to planting which ensured the best growing conditions. Work was carried out efficiently with the minimum of fuss. He is now in the process of planting a wild flower meadow for us.
