Based in our new studio in Brighton, we are a professional design and consultancy practice that blends creativity with a practical approach. Stuart brings over fifteen years of practical experience gardening in the UK and Mediterranean together with exceptional garden design training at the renowned Inchbald School of Design. This enables him to offer a unique perspective and approach, showing a clear understanding of the practicalities that underlie good design and make a garden successful. Stuart has a great respect and appreciation for the natural landscape and spirit of place, and his love of drawing and painting gives him insight into colour and form in a garden setting. Stuart also has a keen interest in the natural world and conservation and enjoys regular adventure holidays; the most recent being a month long adventure safari in Botswana and Zambia to experience the Okavango Delta and Luangwa. Excellent on planting design, really grasped the mood of the garden, came up with a great theme and introduced me to some plants I hadn’t come across before. A bit less strong on landscaping side, e.g., pond construction. A real pleasure to deal with.

We worked with Stuart to redesign a rather formal shrub based garden In Hampshire to a beautiful garden linking garden and surrounding landscape. The design completely captured our brief. The planting plan was exquisite. In year 3 since planting, the garden is growing even more fabulous year on year. Stuart is very professional, providing detail plans and plant lists with illustrations. We can thoroughly recommend him.

Stuart Barfoot transformed La Rocca’s garden from a building site into a paradise. Stuart listened attentively to our vision and came up with designs that exceeded our expectations in every way. Charming, reliable, honest and courteous it was a huge pleasure to work with him over the last 18 months as he brought terrace by terrace to life with his confident vision and extraordinary flair. He knew exactly what does and doesn’t grow in Italy and his attention to detail from hard landscaping through to planting has given us a garden beyond our wildest dreams. He worked well with our architects, regarding lighting and building needs, and was diplomatic, friendly and firm. We would welcome the chance to work with him again in the future.
