Sue Townsend Garden Design

Sue first worked on our garden when we moved into our new home with our young children. She created a space that was able to morph effortlessly between the demands of a growing family and our desire for a grown up space for entertainment. When we remodelled our home recently, I had no hesitation to engage Sue again. She is a delight to work with. She naturally relates to her clients, is highly creative and has a strong yet simple design ethos. She listens well and her designs reflect the clients ideas whilst at the same time providing gentle guidance to an improved outcome. As before, she immediately understood what I was looking for and translated that into a stylish space that has received much admiration from friends (and the press!). Her idea to commission a stunning steel piece that acts as both sculpture and practical shield to all the common trivia a family creates was truly inspiring. I would have no hesitation to work with Sue again and have recommended her to many friends.

Sue redesigned the garden of our holiday house on the Suffolk coast. It was a complicated affair; the old garden was mostly paved with banked beds and Was rather grim, uninviting and hence underused. Sue’s brief was to produce a design that would make us want to be outside whenever the weather allowed. And this is definitely the outcome. We now have an easy care, light, bright space with beautiful planting and an abundance of sitting and lounging areas. Suddenly we are in the South of France and the garden could not be better used! In tandem with our Suffolk redesign we also moved homes in London and Sue again transformed our traditional suburban garden into a cool urban oasis. Gone is the classic lawn surrounded by beds and we now have an architectural design that has an abundance of planting with a postage stamp of a lawn to keep our puppy happy! Overall I can not recommend Sue highly enough. Both our gardens included some very specific briefs and Sue has exceeded our expectations in each. She is a delight to work with and combines the technical skills of an architect with an extensive knowledge of plants to produce unique and beautiful spaces.

Choosing Sue to design our garden was one of the best decisions ever. From the outset she fully listened to our brief and came up with some great creative suggestions. In less than a year our garden has been transformed into the most amazing, magical space. The colour and texture combinations, together with thoughtful succession planting provides interest throughout the year. The birds, butterflies, pond bugs, dragonflies, field mice and Mr Mole all have a great time too! We still can’t believe this really is our garden – it’s surpassed our wildest dreams!

Sue did a great job on our garden. She is from our local area in Suffolk and really knew what would work in our garden. She showed passion, great knowledge and has always helped when we’ve gone back to her with questions. Our garden is beautiful and is admired by the whole village.
