The Garden Company

The Garden Company has done two jobs for us. Obviously we would not have come back for more if we had not been satisfied first time! The first was a largish design job for a totally reconstructed back garden, on a sloping site of irregular shape, with the house diagonal to the garden. After 8 years, we remain delighted with the result. James Scott was interactive and creative, mingling his garden design expertise with our suggestions to produce a pleasing result that met and improved on our spec. He was easy and encouraging to work with. We wanted an attractive garden that would exploit the view from the top of the site, give pleasure to a keen amateur gardener, but not overload on maintenance as he aged, and provide a fun garden for grandchildren. Hide-and-seek, running, croquet (not Hurlingham standard). He achieved all that and the garden yields a continuously changing balance of colour, texture and interest. Every morning as I look out of the bedroom window, I think how lucky we are. The second job came later, when the financial controller allowed us to sort out the front of house. The aim was to provide a useful car parking/turnaround that was not just a parking lot, but an attractive and practical green frontage that would overcome some physical constraints. Once again, we are pleased with the result. Not just us - the delivery men and visitors like it too. The staff and sub-contractors were all courteous and helpful: good people to have around. Well supervised, too. Creative, attractive and practical. Recommended.

The Garden Company redesigned and completed the transformation of our front and rear gardens - including three patios, lighting throughout, pergola and various paths. The process started with our garden designer, Alex, spending time with us understanding our needs and discussing ideas. We felt Alex was particularly attentive to the need for the balance between practicality and beauty. Communication with Alex, who also managed the landscapers, electricians for lighting, deliveries etc. was excellent at all times and has continued to be after completion, offering advice on plant care and fixing minor problems. The plants are of excellent quality and the garden is maturing beautifully. We are delighted with the end result and would recommend the Garden Company without hesitation.

When we initially instructed the Garden Company to design us a garden, we naturally had certain ideas that we wanted implementing but also needed a little inspirational help ! Alex (Design & Landscape Manager) did not only met the initial brief but he completely surpassed it. He has given us a garden we are absolutely delighted with, and while we might not be expert judge's, it is safe to say that the British Association of Landscape Industries certainly are, so by being given an award at their 2016 BALI National Award shows we were not the only ones that were impressed with his work. While we can't speak highly enough of Alex, we would also like to mention what a great team he had working with him. Humbly he always pointed out that Dave and Ian and the rest of the team were an integral part of why the project was so successful. Moving forward, we now have Joanna and the maintenance team to make sure the garden stays as Alex intended it to, When Robyn starts her work in the morning we know its going to be as tidy as a show garden when she leaves in the afternoon. From the start of the project through to the ongoing maintenance the Garden Company are an absolutely superb company to deal with.

We hired the Garden Company to redesign our garden after renovation of the house had left the garden in an awkward shape and overgrown, in need of a complete new start. James really listened to what we wanted, and created a design that made sense of the space we had. The company carried out the work to a high standard, and were polite, considerate and trustworthy. We are delighted with the finished project. The garden is full of interest in different seasons, is perfect to sit in on sunny afternoons and provides a fabulous view from the house, and is now flourishing.

The design that Alex proposed was interesting and exciting. It really brings the garden to life. It was so different to anything I would have thought to try myself and I am so glad I got help at this planning stage as if I had tried to design it myself, I think I would have been very cautious and ended up with a half-hearted attempt. Alex was more than happy to incorporate my own suggestions and adapt the design afterwards when we talked it through. This helped to ensure that it was affordable and that it was what I was looking for but it also allowed me to feel that I had some creative influence over the process. I was quite anxious about actually having the work done as it was significant in scale but it was done so smoothly and efficiently, I needn't have worried. The team doing the work made sure that there was no disruption at all and worked incredibly hard. They completed it on time with no problems at all. It is fantastic now to be able to see the garden moving through its first year and I really couldn't recommend the team more highly.

The design and work was carried out in a professional and efficient manner in all aspects of the project, we had our kitchen done in January and the garden in February, our challenge was "The kitchen looks excellent, lets hope you can do they same with the garden, so no pressure", they succeeded! There was a lot of groundwork to be done, many trees to be removed, ground to be levelled, water feature etc, and we think the final result of the project in photographs shows the finished article, just some sun required now to thoroughly enjoy the results. The installation guys were hit with rain, snow, sun basically all that the English climate could through at them and they just carried on regardless. Thanks!
