Thomas Hoblyn is a Suffolk garden design team specialising in classical landscape design for contemporary lifestyles. Tom designs for large rural estates, country houses and townhouses with modern-day requirements. Tom works with clients on all aspects of their landscape scheme from initial concept stage right through to construction, although he is very happy to undertake individual project aspects such as planting design, nursery visits and sourcing of the highest quality plants for clients. Historical restoration and a keen interest in the natural environment play equally important roles in his landscape design. Since training at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, Tom has gone on to win three gold medals at Chelsea Flower Show and Hampton Court.

We take so much pleasure in our tiny town courtyard garden. Designed by Tom Hoblyn for low maintenance and planted by him, his concept with easy to keep flower beds divided by paved walkways, stepping stones and spacious York patio, works so very well. Tom’s choice of plants, the density of his planting; the variety and the juxtapositions of colours as they change over the seasons; the contrasting textures and shapes of the foliage all work together to give us endless pleasure week after week and month after month. Structural box balls, pyramidal bay trees, evergreen trees in pots with delicate grasses moving in the breeze and softening the hard edges of the paving are perfect in winter. In Spring over the weeks, a series of bulbs and allium provide a subtly changing palette of colour. In Summer there’s a joyous profusion; roses and honeysuckle add a romantic feel. And Tom, trained at Kew, has a depth of knowledge about plants which he generously shares on return visits. Tom stuck to his budget and completed his work promptly as promised. We consider ourselves fortunate indeed to have found Tom.

Tom and his team have been reinventing our garden for several years now. We have been sharing a journey with Tom as his vision for the design and detail has transformed the space into the garden we always wanted. The easygoing and professional team have helped the project at every stage and as the garden continues to evolve and develop Tom is still involved in helping us to implement his plan.

Tom and his team designed and built the perfect garden for me and my family nearly a decade ago and it still looks amazing today. The design and implementation process was effortless and even though the site is in an AONB, Tom navigated that constraint with ease. In fact with a new property also in an AONB that we are looking to landscape, the local planners knew Tom by name and reputation and saw his inclusion in the project as a significant plus. I would recommend this highly professional, highly experienced firm to anyone as the results speak for themselves and they are a pleasure to work with.

I have had the pleasure of working with Tom for a number of years now and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a Landscape Designer. Tom’s approach is very professional but also relaxed. He has designed some great schemes that I have had the opportunity to construct and has always been very accommodating when challenges arise.
