Martyn was the designer of a very large renovation and re-landscaping scheme for our garden. He is professional and polite and good to work with. He takes a thorough brief and is meticulous at every stage of the project. We loved his design - he is very creative and knowledgeable but was also receptive and responsive to our comments and any changes we requested. Martyn liaised brilliantly with our landscapers and kept us informed in detail throughout the build/planting stage. He has continued to stay in touch and is always ready to give great advice and support. The design of the garden has been a huge success and we have received many compliments. As the planting schemes have begun to mature we have been even more impressed with his design. I'd come across Wilson Associates Garden Design at horticultural shows and admired his gardens, so when i wanted my own garden redesigned he was a natural choice. Martyn visited me in my garden and spent time finding out what i wanted from my outside space, assessing the existing structures and planting that might be retained, and discussing new features and boundary options. He was mindful of my budget, and interested in my tastes and fledgling ideas. Martyn then produced a scaled plan with the initial layout, and more impressively, a range of incredibly realistic 3D computer generated images of how the finished garden would look from a variety of crucial viewpoints. This visualisation was extremely helpful, allowing me to get a feel of how the space would look, and meant that any small adjustments to the design could be made, with confidence, before work started. A landscaper colleague visited the site with Martyn before work commenced, and Martyn continued to drop by to check on progress during the build, and again on completion to check that i was satisfied with the work. This is the first summer for the new garden and i can honestly say that i'm delighted with it: it brings me joy every day. Martyn did a fabulous design of our town garden and has created multiple spaces that all link together, we are delighted with the garden and would highly recommend Martyn. Martyn was responsive throughout the project and oversaw the ground works element that was subcontracted out and then arrived with the planting that has really transformed the garden along with new paving around the house.

Martyn presented his ideas to me in 2020 and it was clear from the offset that in terms of presenting thoughts and objectives Martyn was organised and inspirational. While he wasn't the cheapest quote, my expectation was that he would do the best job and was consequently the best value. I was not disappointed in any way. Martyn was a joy to work with during the planning phase and he liaised with the landscaper to ensure that this part was delivered to plan. Finally, he oversaw the procurement of the plants and the planting, and even recommended some extras (such as a shed) to complete the project. The finished result is a constant pleasure and I would certainly look to work with Martyn again if I had another project at any time.

We were dreaming to change our garden for quite a while. It proofed to be rather difficult to find landscapers or gardeners. Finally my wife stumbled across the Houzz website and enquired about our garden project. Honestly, we both didn’t think it would work. To our surprise Martyn contacted us the very next day and we met a couple of weeks later. From this moment onwards everything worked out smoothly. We discussed the design and Martyn delivered all the drawings, mood boards etc. We were updated regularly about the progress. There was nothing we had to sort out. Martyn designed a modern Mediterranean garden for us with many nice features. He organised the landscapers and Jason Grubb and his team made easy work out of it. Martyn and his band of merry sisters and brothers came back for the planting and everything worked out as planned. We could not have been happier. The last stages were actually finished when we were on holiday. Imagine the nice surprise on our return. Martyn did a marvellous job and we can highly recommend him. The great thing about Martyn is that special blend of being a talented designer and a great people person. It’s not one or the other, it’s both which I believe is quite rare. He has a diverse portfolio from extraordinary show gardens to small back garden projects. This has given him the ability to know when and where to fire in some extra special features and dramatic planting. Whilst also knowing when to keep it nice and simple. He has a really broad materials knowledge for the hard landscaping so can bring together lots of different elements and styles to his designs. Whilst also hands on with the planting you know your going to get planting that fits the bill for you, whether that be low maintenance, specific colour palettes, cottage garden, woodland garden, etc. Definitely worth a call you won’t regret consulting him.

Our garden was showing signs of its age. Although we knew what we wanted from our garden we had no idea how to put the various elements together. Martyn listened to our thoughts, questioning us further and offering suggestions. The design was illustrated with mood boards and 3D views to help us visualise what it could be like. All of the elements were included in a design that made the most of the space, veg area with raised beds, an area for the chickens, greenhouse, wildlife pond and a garden room. As requested the planting plan included something of interest for all seasons and which would encourage wildlife into the garden. Martyn and the landscaping team delivered a garden that exceeded our expectations and looks absolutely fantastic. It has already given us so much pleasure, it has been full of bees, dragon and damsel flies, butterflies and birds. We would have no hesitation in recommending Martyn and the landscaping team.

I cannot speak highly enough about Wilson Associates Garden design. We asked Martyn for his services to redesign our very large, unruly and sorely neglected back garden. From the minute we met him we were impressed by his polite considerate and professional demeanor. Martyn’s ability to understand what we wanted from the garden and then transfer that to a beautiful design was so exciting. He was extremely helpful with his guidance on achieving the final design within our budget and throughout the project was available for advice, sharing has passion for gardening that was very infectious, even for beginner gardeners. We now have beautiful raised beds, fabulous porcelain terrace and a path leading up to a gorgeous wood stack feature at the top of the garden with a woodland style planting area. We also now have an area for growing vegetables screened with contemporary and stylish cedar battens. The planting will have colour throughout the year. He has also given us plants that provide different aromas as you move around the garden. Throughout our garden project we have been impressed with Martyn’s professional standards and integrity. Outstanding from the offset! Martyn was very insightful and knowledgeable during the planning of the design. He was very attentive to what we liked and disliked, and designed a garden that surpassed our initial wishes. Martyn was the consummate professional from start to finish. He listened to the ideas we had for the garden and then got us to complete an in depth questionnaire to compliment those ideas. From that a detailed mood board and concept plan was produced & followed up with a video conference to talk over any issues or changes that may have been required. From there a qualified landscaper was appointed and then a site survey/meeting was arranged. All costs and timescales were agreed upfront along with the fact that sometimes the timescales can slip slightly due to supply issues. We are delighted with our garden. Martyn listened carefully to our thoughts and preferences. He also spent time investigating the problem we had with really damp patches in our garden. His design was well considered and has resolved the problem. He has excellent plant knowledge and has delivered a garden with year-round interest for humans, that is also wildlife friendly. He took the time to find varieties of fruit trees that would do well in our soil and sourced some high quality trees and plants. At all stages we felt that Martyn really cared about our garden and made sure he was on hand when the hard landscaping was being done to make sure everything was perfect. He was onsite throughout the planting and has also come back to see us since completion to assure himself that we are happy, that everything is thriving and that there are no issues. So different from some tradesman who take the money, are never seen again and will not come near if there is a problem! Martyn designed and project managed a re-design of our large suburban garden in South Birmingham. We wanted to combine the formality of an Islamic/Persian quadrant structure with cottage garden style plants. As we are on a slope there was a lot of complexity in the landscaping requirements. We are absolutely thrilled with the completed garden! It is more usable for our family and will have year round interest. The finish is second to none. Throughout the process, Martyn was great at communicating the features of his design and which areas to prioritise / de-scope given our budget. He was also invaluable at finding a landscaper, only working with those he endorses. He also oversaw the project, attending on site as required and then finished off with the planting. I was looking for help with the garden of a new house and was completely scrambled by the myriad of choices available. I have worked with Martyn on several projects to date as a landscaper. Martyn listens to his clients needs and produces fantastic designs. He has a wealth of experience from his previous roles in the RAF and town planning which he can bring to the role of garden designer. Martyn from Wilson Associates was thoroughly professional and engaged throughout the project. He took great trouble to capture our aspirations, preferences and concerns and had the empathy to translate this into a compelling and attractive design and project plan. The project consisted of remodelling a courtyard garden for a Georgian townhouse. This was on two levels and needed to have viewpoints from the main living space windows. Wilson Associates achieved this using raised beds, with white walls to add further shape and 2 water features. The whole area was then completely replanted with a white and green theme. It was delivered to time and budget with which we were, and continue to be, thrilled.

I worked with Martyn on his Macmillan Garden project this summer. The project grew bigger than anyone imagined, starting as a show garden at the NEC and ending up as a massive project for the Botanical Gardens, Birmingham. I was in awe and so grateful for Martyns hard work and professionalism during the project. His calm nature shone through when tough decisions needed to be made. It was a pleasure to work with him and Macmillan are forever indebted to him for creating us such a wonderful garden in which everyone can share.
