Apt Studios

We had a bare concrete rectangle court yard, a former farm yard, that we wanted to transform into an appropriate garden for our new barn conversion. We discovered APT after researching and reading reviews. Mathew and Tom, listened to our brief, and were very attentive in creating a garden that would enhance the natural features of the barn. We worked closely with Tom, who came up with initial design ideas. We loved the concept and variety of materials and planting he was suggesting, although for our purposes we needed the design to be simplified. Tom listened carefully to our thoughts then resubmitted version 2 which we loved. We used our own people to bring the design to life and couldn’t be more happier with the results. Tom has helped us to create a garden that we would never have imagined ourselves. It’s given us an extra ‘room’ that we just love spending time in.

So we moved into our forever home in May 2022. It is a new build so we had a totally blank canvas. We knew we wanted a bespoke designed garden as we have no skills or time to do it ourselves. We had some basic ideas of what we wanted. ‘Must haves’ for us was a sunken area, water feature of some type, space for entertaining & mature trees & good lighting for evenings. It was important that we had environmentally friendly materials & the planting had to attract pollinators. Dave did his homework & we finally decided on APT for two reasons it was a local independent family run business & seemed to be very professional. After Matthew visited us & he saw our space, we sat down with him to discuss our ideas, what we liked, what we didn’t like our interests & lifestyle & we wanted the garden to do for us. As soon as he had gone away to draw up the plans, we instantly knew we had 100% made the right decision - we were so relaxed with Matthew, like we had known him for years. We were confident that we had chosen the right company. When he came back with the plans we were blown away - he nailed it first time! Can you imagine the delight a goth gets hearing the words ‘we need you to paint your fences black’? Happy days! So we went ahead & never looked back… all the way through the whole process Matthew kept regular contact & visited often ensuring we were happy with everything. APT’s whole team are a wonderful bunch.. Harvey, Paul & Jeff were absolutely brilliant, such grafters and standard of work is first class, always so polite & friendly. We had a good laugh with them & when they had finished the project & left us we really, genuinely missed them…lovely, lovely people. Now it was not the biggest garden project APT have done, in-fact in terms of square footage it could be considered small, but it was a challenge (very, very heavy compacted clay), very detailed & high end finish with 3 very mature trees installed & lots of planting, water feature, lighting, decking, porcelain patios & sunken area. We wanted this garden to be extension of our beautiful home & to reflect our personalities & this was delivered way beyond our expectations! We adore this space, it has such an amazing vibe, it’s vibrant & stylish best of all we get loads of little visitors, Bees, butterflies, gorgeous Dragon Flies & the bats swoop around in the evenings. Our big visitors (friends) without exception absolutely love it! Oh yeah & loads of our friends are painting their fences black too, as they agree with Matthew - it makes everything POP! And it really does….thank you APT you are an amazing team of talented wonderful people.

I am so pleased with my new garden it is everything I’d hoped. From initial contact through design and completion Matthew guided and understood my garden concept. Right from the very start Matt was helpful and really took on board our requirements when it came to creating our new garden. The end product is exactly what we wanted and looks great too. The choice of plants and layout is perfect for us and our 3-year-old who loves it. During the construction and all throughout the build Matt and his workers were thoughtful and respectful of not only our house but also our neighbours. If anything was going to create noise or dust, they would inform our neighbours with enough time for them to close windows etc if needs be. Since doing our garden I have now recommended Matt to a number of friends and family. You really couldn’t get much better.

We moved into a new build which had a patio, grass and lots of fencing. Matt has transformed it into a garden where we have been able to relax and entertain our friends as if we have lived here for years. Matt listened to all our ideas and wish list, produced a plan which he was happy to amend and then managed to fit it into our budget. The build was not easy through the post Christmas lockdown, coping with staff absence, shortages of materials and dreadful weather. But we had a garden on the date that he had promised! Throughout it all we were kept informed of any unavoidable changes of plan. The team that worked for us were courteous, cheerful and very hard working. We have no hesitation on recommending Matt and the team.

Matt and the team at APT have provided an exceptional design and build service for renovating our garden and driveway. I went on to recommend APT to several of my friends and family who have all had their gardens redesigned, remodeled and landscaped by APT. They are all very pleased with their respective outcomes. We met Matt at a busy home show and evenso he spent a good hour with us talking about gardens and showing us his portfolio. We were hooked. So on our refurbishment project, we got Matt to design our garden in parallel to the architect plans for the house. We are glad we did. Because the extra creative input meant everything fits together, and also Matt’s ideas for the raised patio and entrance gates could be shown on the planning application so we don’t need to go back to planning. We couldn’t be happier with the garden plans. Just disappointed we can’t put the plans into action until the house is built!

Matt grasped what we were trying to achieve from our garden right away. He cleverly used the space we had left after we had an extension and not only maximised it, but made it seem bigger than it was before we built on the land. His first designs absolutely hit the brief and we asked for minimal changes. The planting plan and use of materials completed our house and worked with the way we wanted to use the garden perfectly. The team who did the work for us were friendly, personable and efficient. The end result is incredible and actually better than we could have imagined
