Richard's brief was simple: Give us a garden which we can use. We're built on clay, at a low point in the road, so our garden was either water-logged when wet or had huge cracks in it when dry. Heavy rain meant a lake appearing on the grass, and trips to the end of the garden meant mud-caked footwear. We'd tried some cheaper solutions, but these had proven to be ineffective. Richard and his team arrived well-prepared and on time. They took every care when getting the mini-digger through the garage (the only access to the garden), and protected the patio while they worked. They laid a network of drains the length and width of the garden, laid new turf and planted out the flower beds. Some of the plants did not survive the extremely heavy rain which followed in the couple of weeks after but we'll add some new plants in the spring. No big deal. The important part to us was the lawn. I have waited a few months to write this, because I wanted to see how it would perform. We have had some extremes of weather over the summer, including plenty of rain to test the drainage. And it has performed excellently. Even after heavy persistent rain we have been able to walk up the garden without getting sinking into the ground and coming back muddy. Richard was great - nothing was a problem or too much trouble. Arbour Designs are not cheap, but you do get what you pay for. I am happy to recommend them, and will be asking them back to do some magic in the front garden.

We recommended Arbour Design and Build to our clients to carry out the planting of mature hedging and trees on a garden design project of ours. The team carried out the work to a very high standard and left the site clean and tidy. They take pride in their work and have an in depth knowledge of plant requirements. Richard designed and his crew installed a sandstone patio of some 30 square metres in April 2011 and were re-engaged to lay an adjoining sandstone pathway in September 2012. At the initial site meeting Richard listened to our requirements and offered constructive (and money saving) suggestions. The crew were always polite and meticulous to a fault leaving the site in a clean and tidy state at the end of each working day. I would certainly use this company again.

I used Arbour Design and Build to undertake the landscaping of my front driveway. Throughout the process Richard and his team were professional, conscientious and tidy. The team had to undertake a range of tasks including: the careful removal of concrete that went right up to the house; laying of pavers in a curved design that required patience and precision; dealing with a plot that sloped in several directions; and liaising with other contractors. The work was undertaken over the winter when it was very wet and the plot was extremely muddy at times. However, somehow the team managed to keep the site and the area where they stored equipment remarkably clean and tidy. Richard and his team were excellent at communicating with me throughout the project and worked with me to deal with issues as they arose. I am very pleased with the end result and would have no hesitation using them again.
