For over 20 years Sian Baxter Lighting Design has been designing beautiful lighting schemes for residential and commercial properties in the UK, Europe and the USA. Based in Putney, we are a small and personal consultancy led by Sian Baxter who is a perfectionist and very enthusiastic about the transformative power of light; ‘It still makes me smile when I see one of my lighting schemes come to life and utterly transform a space’. Our award winning consultancy designs lighting schemes for homes, gardens, restaurants, hotels, spas and retail spaces. Our lighting schemes are carefully considered, subtle, sympathetic, functionally effective and use the latest energy efficient technology. A significant percentage of our business comes from returning clients who have moved home or premises, expanded their business or property or passed our details onto their children. As an independent lighting design consultancy we provide impartial advice on the most appropriate lights to use. We source architectural and decorative lights from a variety of suppliers across the UK and Europe. We also design bespoke decorative lights where something special is needed.

Sian helped me with a small home lighting project. I was struggling with the lighting in the dining area in my kitchen. Sian gave me some excellent advice and made me make a brave decision to move a light that really wasn't working. She helped me with recommendations for a replacement and I am so happy with the end result. She also designed a shelf unit with lighting integrated and I am so happy with this also. I appreciated her help as my requirement was small and she could easily have said that it was not a big enough project for her to assist with but I'm very glad she didn't! I will be in touch with Sian again in the future for any further requirements. She's a real expert.

Hadn't initially thought about a using a lighting designer for our house refurbishment until it became clear that getting it very wrong was a reality! Sian was extremely patient and flexible and clearly knows her stuff. She also sourced items at a discount and offered help with items outside her remit too. Sian Baxter recently advised me on a property I bought in the countryside. It's a beautiful but relatively dark little white washed cottage. I asked Sian to come and see the place and work with me to bring the cottage to life in terms of lighting. Sian advised on what type of lighting to use and where best to use it, providing me a plan to work from. Sian has been great to work with, patient and creative, someone who obviously knows her lighting. I will be back in touch with Sian when I buy another property.

Our project is not without some challenges - a Caribbean style house build in Antigua with U.S. electrical spec, a British Architect, an Antigua based Contractor and me, the Client, based in Asia! I selected Sian based on Houzz recommendations, and as she had previously worked on some U.S. projects. Thus, Sian was able to provide some excellent advice on lighting that would meet our requirements; she then quickly produced plans, plus product recommendations and pricing. The house is not like a conventional home, with 5 pyramidal roofs with little or no gap for recessed lighting. However, Sian came up with some wonderful ideas for uplighting and downlighting these roofs to get over these challenges. This, and other areas of lighting, were critical to incorporate early in the architectural and tendering process. Throughout, she has been extremely helpful, working long distance via email and phone calls. The build is now underway and Sian has continued to be responsive to questions from the Electrical Contractor as work progresses. I am looking forward to seeing the end result.

Sian provided an excellent bespoke service. She is very knowledgeable and I was grateful that she shared this knowledge and explained the tecnicalities when I needed clarification. She helped me draw up the lighting plans and specified the lighting for my entire house (3,500 sq ft). Since I had a tight budget she gave me options so that I could work within it. Sian was always reliable and worked with me both on and off site. She is very detail oriented which was perfect for me- she even spent an afternoon with the kitchen planner, marking out the exact positions of the downlights! We are now enjoying the amazing lighting she helped to plan in our house - simple but very effective, exactly as I had requested. I would recommend her very highly for all levels of lighting advice!

Sian is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of how best to light a home/premise, both internally and externally. Over a number of years, Sian has transformed the majority of our the rooms in our house (bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and even garden) to provide a lovely combination of lighting with efficiency and purpose in mind. Sian is uptodate with lighting options and worked well alongside our builders to help make sure that the electricians had followed her plan correctly. We are extremely pleased with the outcome and are looking forward to using her again soon, as we plan to extend our kitchen and dig out basement rooms. I would recommend her highly.

We were engaged in a large private project in Chiswick to turn what had become an old people's home back into over 5,000 sq ft of residential accommodation including significant basement excavation under the house and garden. This was the one and only time we were going to do works on this scale so needed to have a team of professionals around us to help make it a success. Sian Baxter Lighting Design was selected to provide help in an area where we had little technical knowledge. We were given clear guidance on layout and product selection and also help in making our decisions around the lighting in the right order (e.g. on final size and positioning of furniture). The final design of the lighting has made a hugely positive impact and we are thrilled with the results. Also, our project was used within a short segment on an episode of Grand Designs. Kevin McCloud used it as an example of a conversion "where they had really thought about light..."
