We couldn’t be more pleased with our new holiday home. Michael , Harry and their team worked wonders within the tight planning constraints to design and deliver a house that sits beautifully within it’s context whilst providing us something rather special. They are also very personable , helpful and easy to deal with .

We have just received planning permission for our internal reconfiguration which Simon has designed for us. He visited us on several occasions and helped us to see the potential in our property exploring all the options available. Together we talked through how we want to use the house and we have used every pocket of space to reach that potential. Simon has been friendly and accommodating throughout and he has kept in touch regularly. He talked us through the planning process and kept us updated whilst successfully securing planning permission. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Simon, he is a highly skilled architect and we thoroughly enjoyed working with him. Many thanks Simon!

I am so pleased I asked Julie-Ann to design the refurbishment of my house. From the Dormer extension for the master bedroom suite, to redesigning the kitchen and dining room to make one big open plan room, to the ground floor shower room and utility and even redesigning the patio area, Julie-Ann and her team have through their knowledge, experience and attention to the smallest detail, given me a beautiful home. Julie-Ann and her team are lovely, nothing is ever too much trouble. If you want an Architect who will design you something really special then In Ex Design is that company. We engaged van Ellen & Sheryn in 2013 to assist with the design of and planning for a new build house in Totnes, Devon which my family and I now very happily live in. We worked mostly with Eilir Sheryn who showed enthusiasm, skill and experience in helping us navigate our way through the project. In particular he was willing and able to follow our brief in respect of design and budget which, in our experience, not every architect will do. All of the staff at the firm are personable and professional and we would not hesitate to recommend them ( we have on two occasions ) and we are in fact currently discussing a new project with Eilir. Upon completion our house was featured in Homebuilding & Renovating magazine and will also appear the TV series " Building the Dream " sometime in 2016..........testament to a job well done. We instructed Woodford Architecture to assist us in prolonged negotiations with a local developer who had obtained detailed planning consent to convert an office building in the historic centre of Exeter into three floors of appartments with two added penthouses on a new contemporary steel and glass fourth floor. After weeks of discussion we managed to convince the developer to sell us the entire new floor as one large new appartment fitted out entirely to our specification. This entailed some re design of the new structure on a project which was about to start The deal was entirely dependant on Woodford Architecture producing detailed design plans and specifications to very tight deadlines indeed, in the face of a somewhat sceptical contractor. There is no doubt whatsoever that had not Gavin Woodford and his staff worked seven days a week for several weeks we would not have been able to meet our contractual commitments. They are to be congratulated on a remarkable job well done.

G3 Design + Architecture

Ian Jenkin from G3 Design and Architecture helped us with our planning application recently, which was a really positive experience. A meeting at our house was arranged to discuss ideas for an extension to the property, and he was very open, knowledgeable and easy to work with. Ian did some research prior to the meeting and came up with some great ideas on the best use of space, and elegant design options, that would meet the City Council's criteria. The drawings were provided in an electronic format and in hard copies, which were professional and easy to read, helping to bring the project to life. G3 Design and Architecture were much more flexible and willing to share ideas than some of the larger architects we spoke to, and got the process moving straight from the first meeting. The planning application went straight through, without any issues or questions being raised, which was a fantastic outcome, and we would definitely recommend G3.

We have just completed a new house build and invited WoCo to design and build a wood and metal staircase for our contemporary home. Our brief was for a striking staircase for the centre of our house using walnut and hot -rolled steel. The whole process was a delight; the team were very creative but responsive to the needs of a functioning, high traffic piece. Their attention to detail is exemplary. We are now the proud owners of a beautiful, striking and functional staircase that is almost a work of art. In light of this success we commissioned WoCo to design and build a 12 seat dining table in similar materials which has been a triumph.

We have used Trotman Taylor; aka Clayton Taylor, on 2 occasions: The first time was for plans to build a 3 bay cart lodge - the plans produced were creative, comprehensive and instrumental in getting planning approval from Dartmoor National Park. Clayton guided us through the whole process. The second time was to integrate a separated upper floor from the main house and link it into the other floors. Again Clayton provided plans that were imaginative, innovative and maximised the use of the space. He also assisted with the application for Building Control to a successful conclusion. In both cases Clayton was thorough with several site visits, he communicated well at all stages of the planning with patience and full explanations of the different options for the build. His business plan was clearly set out. Clayton was able to recommend local builders and tradesmen all of whom said that ‘if you can't build off Claytons plans , you cant build off anything as they are so comprehensive and leave nothing to chance!’ We consider Cayton’s services to be excellent value for money and wouldn't hesitate to use this business again and we would recommend him to anyone.

We selected GYa to design a striking contemporary home to replace a semi-derelict 1950s house on a very difficult, steeply-sloping, coastal site. GYa was selected from a long list of about six firms and an interviewed shortlist of three firms, each with strong track records of designing upmarket coastal houses in Devon. We had no hesitation in selecting GYa after interview. Phil Yunnie gave us confidence that he would meet our brief: to design a really striking house, yet one which would be very "liveable" as a family home. We wanted to make "an investment in architecture", not just build a dull, generic box, but we did not want a house which felt more like an art gallery. Phil's final design, developed over several months of excellent client/architect collaboration, met our brief outstandingly, while navigating the practical difficulties of a constricting and steep site. For unrelated personal reasons, we ultimately decided not to redevelop the property.
