I have sent 5 emails saying I would change the tile shown on the picture above for no extra charge. I said when I have been paid for the work completed I would carry out the tile change. The offer is still on the table.
I said if additional work was required with more tiles being removed then I would have to charge an hourly rate, I never once mentioned a day rate.
The client mentions cutting methods and says I cut them incorrectly, I used a wet saw and turned tiles upside down to cut, this is the correct method. Sometimes the glaze on tiles can chip.
I have explained to the client that their cupboards were covered in silicone as the builders had move the cupboards (3x I believe) before I started the job. I spent time trying to remove this but some was possibly left, so it held a bit of grout, as seen in the picture. Once silicone has been removed and the cupboard has been wiped the grout won’t be there. I did not wipe the cupboards numerous times.
I discussed with the client that silicone wasn’t needed next to a door frame, if it was a bathroom this would have been done. Whilst completing the silicone where the tiles meet the upstands I said I would do the silicone by the door but the client said not to worry about it. The silicone was left with the client in case they wanted to do any more silicone as I was advised not to. I did not include in my quote to silicone around cupboards but we discussed this could be done if the client didn’t like the cut underneath the cupboard as it would cover any grout areas they didn’t like.
All tiles were laid brick bond and no grout lines were out of line. The client told me once I finished he did like the way I laid them on the left hand side Where the kitchen sockets are. I’ve attached a picture to show this.
I won’t post our email conversations and I can’t prove what was said in person but I’m a honest hard working tiler and this one job was not perfect but the client has found me on various platforms and has been making untrue comments which I have to respond to. Everybody has an opinion and if he believes my work is 2* that is fair enough but to lie about certain things is not right. I have all emails to confirm what I have said is true.
I completely understand your frustration and I am also frustrated, I have had to take this week off work to sort my van out and also purchase over £1000 worth of tools. It is very unfortunate that this has happened to you this week with regards to the work.
I informed you at the earliest opportunity I could which was as soon as I returned from holiday and noticed my van door. I've offered to complete the indoor work for you the following week but explained I have now lost time to complete the outside work and my labourer.
With regards to being too busy in September I already have worked booked in and what I tried to explain via email was that it would be very difficult to swap all of my September work about, it was unrealistic that I could fit the work in September for you. The option is open for October but this is a weather dependant job.
I feel a 1 star review is harsh. I would understand the review if I had bad communication, completed the work and you were unsatisfied, but this is just unfortunate event what has happened. I contacted you about everything that was going on throughout and at the earliest opportunity I could. I also got you the discount on the tiles.
I can only apologise.
