“I had Universal Blinds install some replacement vertical blinds about two years ago and their service and price were something I remembered. So much so, that when the time came to install all new blinds in my home I call on them, and they did not disappointment. They recommended I switch to more modern horizontal blinds which I did. Their installation was fast, price affordable, and the new blinds look absolutely great. I am very pleased with their work and will use them for any future needs. “Susan Knight is the best!!! She has an amazing eye for colors and fabrics and can put together anything, from traditional to contemporary. “We are residential architects based in New York City, and have used Madeleine on multiple projects ( well over 10) during the last 15-20 years. She is an extremely talented seamstress and we use her primarily for curtains, roman shades, bed dressings, pillows, etc. She produces excellent work, is 100% reliable, and is fairly priced. On top of all that, she is very easy to work with. I cannot recommend her highly enough. I hope she continues working another few decades!!”

“Ed just completed my entire home with custom window treatments. He took the time to help me select the products for each room, i.e., custom drapery, Luminettes, cornices, plantation shutters, etc. My home has a lot of windows and several rooms and Ed worked with me (free of charge) for 5 days until I made all of my selections and helped me design my window treatment project. This was all complimentary. When I finally made the selections, I chose all the fabrics, selected the Hunter Douglas products, he sent me an estimate. When we agreed on price, only then did he take a deposit for 50%. Turnaround time was par for the course with custom drapery and at the height of a busy season in Palm Beach County I was more than happy to wait. I was scheduled for installation several weeks later and I must say the installers were equally as wonderful, respectful and tidy. Custom window treatments are not for everyone. Some don't understand the time it takes to order fabrics, sew the drapery, order the shutters, etc., and I had no unrealistic expectations. I can unequivocally recommend Edward's Window Decor and anyone is free to call me to validate this review.”

When choosing curtains, consider their function, whether for privacy, light blocking, or decor enhancement. Take into account the room’s style, choosing curtains that complement the overall decor in terms of colour, pattern, and fabric texture. Measure the window accurately to ensure the curtains are the right size and length, considering whether you prefer floor-length or sill-length curtains. Select curtain fabrics based on light-blocking abilities, durability, and ease of cleaning.
In general, your curtains width should be double the width of your windows. For length, this depends on if you want floor length, sill length curtains or below sill. For sill length curtains, they should sit 1cm above the windowsill. Below length curtains generally sit around 15cm under the sill. For floor length curtains, ensure there is at least a 1cm gap between them and the floor. If your window has a radiator underneath it, the curtains should stop around 2-3cm above the radiator to avoid heat being absorbed by the curtain.
Simply measure from where you want your blinds to start (the rail), to where you want your blinds to finish. Add 10-15 cms to this to prevent light bleed. To ensure your blinds fit correctly, take measurements at 3 equal points across your window and use the longest size.
Any fabric can be used, but generally the most common types of fabric used are cotton, silk, linen, polyester, and combinations of these due to their lighter weight and insulating properties.
