Why is My Email Not Going Through?
If you’ve sent out an email, and the recipient has not found the email at the top of their inbox, this doesn’t necessarily mean the email hasn’t been delivered. We recommend that your recipient searches by subject line to see if the email has arrived. It’s also possible that one of the following has occurred:
- The email has been delivered, but has ended up in the Promotions folder (applicable to Gmail)
- The email has been filtered out by the recipient’s filter settings and has ended up in another folder
- The email contains certain text that the recipient’s email client has marked as Spam
Below are steps you can take to help your email go through:
The email has been delivered, but has ended up in the Promotions folder
If this is the case, then the recipient needs to click on the email and use the 'Move to' function to move it to their normal inbox. Gmail should then make sure all future emails will land in the correct folder.
The email has been filtered out by the recipient’s filter settings and has ended up in another folder
If the email has landed in a custom folder, then the recipient will need to check their filter policies. They should remove all filters that would remove the email from appearing in their regular inbox (e.g.: removing filters for Houzz, certain subject lines, etc).
The email contains certain text that the recipient’s email client has marked as Spam:
If your email is ending up in the spam folder, there can be numerous reasons why that’s happening. In general, you should avoid using spam-inducing language and punctuation in the email subject and body (e.g.: multiple words related to money or free items, all caps, repeated exclamation points, etc.), try not to send too many large attachments, and provide an unsubscribe link option.
