Small bohemian galley enclosed kitchen in Hampshire with a built-in sink, flat-panel cabinets, white cabinets, wood worktops, white splashback, metro tiled splashback, coloured appliances, painted wood flooring and no island.

The opposing joinery and staircase create a strong relationship at both sides of the living space. The continuous joinery seamlessly morphs from kitchen to a seat for dining, and finally to form the media unit within the living area. The stair and the joinery are separated by a strong vertically tiled column. Our bespoke staircase was designed meticulously with the joiner and steelwork fabricator. The wrapping Beech Treads and risers and expressed with a shadow gap above the simple plaster finish. This is an example of a small contemporary kitchen in Surrey.

While we were working on the lounge project the couple decided to revamp the kitchen retaining as many of the original units as possible. We removed the wall units opting for simple display shelving. There were overpowering dark blue tiles on the wall around the sink area and we removed these in favour of a painted finish and upstand. We also replaced the existing breakfast bar which was overlarge with this arrangement that includes storage underneath. Image by Georgi Mabee

Since the kitchen is 'the heart of every home' and 'everyone always ends up in the kitchen at a party' our brief was to create an open plan space respecting the buildings original internal features and highlighting the large sash windows that over look the garden.
