Small contemporary home in Melbourne.

The owners of this property were completing a full renovation of the house to provide a home for their young family for the next few years. Removing the overgrown existing garden completely, we started with a blank canvas approach to complete a fresh functional outdoor area that maximises every inch of space and provides an attractive setting for the home. Built in bench seating provides the perfect area to sit and watch the children and artificial turf ensures the children can get outside to play all year around. New gates at the entrance provide a secure and attractive entry to the property and ensures the long driveway can be used for toddler's bikes and ride on toys safely. A new storage shed is incorporated on the driveway. Paving down the side of the house provides an attractive outlook from the kitchen, additional storage and easy access to utilities. Planting was kept minimal but with a focus on subtropical plants that will provide interest through colour and foliage texture all year round.

This is an example of a medium sized mediterranean sloped xeriscape garden with a living wall.

This lovely farmhouse, set in rolling countryside in Berkhamsted, near Hemel Hempstead Hertfordshire, was covered in ivy which obscured the detail of the building. Our approach was to create intimate terrace areas close to the house which were separated by planting in quite a traditional style. The sides of the garden were flanked with a green oak pergola which created frames for the views to the countryside beyond.

Our client in Annandale had always had a green thumb. He loved his plants and had an extensive collection of pots and plants already in the small courtyard garden. It was only the courtyard itself that wasn’t working as it was dominated by a large wall cutting the space practically in half. It was also fairly dull and impractical. The brief as you might imagine was to not only create large planting areas but also have room for an entertaining space and a large water feature and green wall. The key was to keep it simple. We changed the flooring to a beautiful modular slate and created an in-built seat with raised garden bed packed full of plants. The in-built seating really helped to maximise the space and also provides a great focal point. The water feature provides that soothing quality of running water and is also stocked full of fish. There is also still plenty of room for the pots and the garden can comfortably be called a green oasis from every angle. This garden design project was a real pleasure to work on and it certainly proves the old adage that size doesn’t matter.
