Do you just want the water to come up through the pump, with the controls etc outside and separate? Perhaps a bathtub mixer would be best since they often allow for a separate spout.

Can't really be any more specific than that, I suggest you go to a tap store and look at what would fit in best, and perhaps be prepared to do some drilling and tapping (threading) to put it all together.

I imagine some sort of tube could be inserted up and through the body of the pump to sit just inside the the spout, rather than trying to get water through the actual body, although that's no doubt possible.

Perhaps you could conceal the mixer inside the pump, and use the handle of the pump to control the mixer - if you connected the handle a bit differently, you could make it swivel too, so you have full control of the mixer, not just on and off - although if on off is all you want, a lever type valve's what you want, and use separate taps outside the pump for hot/cold control.

This sounds like a lot of work. I've been doing plumbing for many years, and converting that hand pump to a functioning modern type faucet is not something I would consider doing. I'm sure there's someone who can do it for a price...but more than I'd be willing to pay.

Thank you for the ideas! I would really like to do this myself so probably the easier the better. There is a plastic pipe that has threads that is used to connect to a pipe that extends to the water source. I'll look into a bathtub mixer and see if that will work and then have separate taps mounted next to the pump.

I noticed today that Kohler has a mixing faucet that spills into a pitcher-pump-like spout. It costs $250 at LoweÂs. You can take this modern mixer and re-install it in your own pitcher pump.

I can think of a number of methods to achieve the desired end here but this project would not meet plumbing or health code standards and could present a serious health risk.

ASTM standards, the plumbing codes and the health codes all require that all fixtures MUST BE free of any concealed fouling areas.

have vintage hand pump and wish to install in my shop to wash rocks in a utility sink. how do i hook up a water line from existing system to the pump. is this possible? All i need is water-no hot water necessary.
