Missing: SS Undermount with faucet deck?
Hello,
My wife and I are in the early stages of a remodel. We would like granite countertops with an undermount SS sink. However, we cannot find a SS undermount with a recessed faucet deck (i.e., so when your wet hands drip down the faucet handle, it goes in the sink instead of on the counter). Does anyone know if such a beast exists in the wild?

18 years agoI should have added--Talk to some granite fabricators about using an overmount sink as an undermount and what features you need to look for in the sink (rim styles, gauge, maximum area of cutout you can do, esp. front to back measurement, etc.)
When I was looking for an undermount lavatory back 9-10 years ago (and spending a lot of time in plumbing depts), I noticed that a lot of the SS kitchen sinks were double-billed as being suitable for either drop-in or undermount installation.

I would think really hard about strange this is going to look. If I understand you, you want the faucet mounted at sink level so it will be on the deck. The sight of a faucet peeking up from below the granite level would be pretty weird, I think.
If that's not what you mean, what do you mean? A faucet is usually mounted pretty closely to the edge of the cutout. Even positioning the handle on a single handle faucet so it's in front of the faucet instead of on the side will usually make hand drips go into the sink instead of onto the granite.

I'm not sure you understand what an undermount sink is. It's mounted entirely UNDER the granite. Then holes are drill into the granite for the faucet and/or handles - they sit directly on the granite. As others have said you can use an overmount sink BUT if you have it undermounted the faucet deck will be under the granite. If you want a visible faucet deck then you don't really want an undermount sink. You should check some displays at various stores to see what an undermount sink looks like.

I don't know if those photos are what endeitz was trying to describe or not, but I really like both of them. I can certainly see how they would keep more water in the sink, although I also think cleaning around and behind them might not be as easy as one mounted on top. I do like having a larger space behind my faucet, gunk doesn't build up there. These sinks are very pretty, though.
