Snowdrops - I am always so happy to see the first ones appear

My favourite flowers around Christmas have to be Hyacinths, just coming into bloom a few days before and the scent is so pretty, I always have several pots around the house coming into bloom at different times.

My favourite winter flower is the snowdrop however hellebores come soon after in my garden in all different colours. Snowdrops are the first sign of spring.

I couldn't be more excited about my choice - ROSA LILIAN BAYLIS.

I'm related to Lilian who ran the Old Vic for years, founded Saddlers Wells (later The Royal) Ballet and ENO and wanted to find this stunning rose as a 60th Birthday present for my sister.

It was no longer grown. Deep disappointment until I decided to contact the most famous rose growers in the world - Harkness Roses

I was thrilled when Mr Harkness himself said he would cultivate this for the family. How amazing!!!

I shall be sending some to the above establishments, hope to present one to Carlos Acosta at his final performance and to Mathew Warchus who, as the new Artistic Director, had expressed a keen interest in Lilian's tireless work and artistic style, and was thrilled to hear about the rose and my offer.

So, if there are any avid Ballet, Theatre, Opera fans or rose lovers out there who'd like this amazing rose I'm sure Mr Harkness would love to help you.

Mine today is a daffodil in full bloom in the garden where my husband works in Surrey.

Dusky pink roses when they are almost dead...so pretty!

Cyclamen, or fairy purses as my little girl calls them. Not poinsettia, I refuse to give them house space as I never had a good reason to get over my childhood grudge against them - being my 'birth flower' and yet not a proper flower at all. I felt thoroughly swizzed compared to my cousins... when I was about 8 that is! Merry & cosy Xmas Houzzmates!

Amaryllis for me!! Think they are magnificent in a very very tall vase - have found a show stopper red variety this year called 'Ferrari' and they are huge!

It has to be Nerines. Even my Camelias can't beat that vibrant splash of colour from a nerine. It's like a patch of summer even on the greyest of winter days. Beautiful !

The winter jasmine is fantastic this year and lights the day up even on gloomy ones.

One of my favourite flowers is the Aganpanthas. it is always a delight to catch one in flower late December ( this week ) when the winter storms are full on. They usually flower in July/ August. What a lovely surprise!

I have loads of orchids in flower always a winner with me but if I had one special winter flower it would be a hellebore, serene and pretty and never fails to show its beauty

Poinsettia. I know 'tis plant. But 'tis awesome and RED and CHRISTMASSY.

I'm going for a pansy, not a clue if Christmas or Winter, but I do love them!

Amaryllis, my mum always pots me up one for Christmas, and its always a challenge to stop it toppling over.

My favourite winter flower is Honeysuckle the 'Winter Beauty' fills you home with a lovely scent

White Hellebores because they brighten up a shady spot in the garden.

Snowdrops. Noticing the first ones each year is a ritual that reminds me of childhood.

A cactus has come into bloom in our hallway and is a mass of beautiful pink flowers.

Virburnum x bodnantense 'Dawn' has the more amazing fragrant pink flowers in the middle of winter.

My favourite is the hellebore. Beautiful delicate flowers in shades of white through to dark red, some are mottled with dots of other colours. They nod their delicate flowers from December through till February, sometimes even as late as March
