colour - should we continue the blue or go pale?

Morning houzzers! we've finally got the paint on the ceiling, cornice and above picture rail (same in both rooms) and last night we got the first coat of colour on the wall in the living room end.. it's a beautiful inky indigo blue called 'dock blue' by little Greene... ceilings and all woodwork (wood not painted yet) is slaked lime.
the area currently still white will have a dining table in the bay window and then a kitchen island in the same blue, a wall of kitchen units along the wall with the chimney breast in a pale/mid grey. worktop on island is a honed white/grey granite. there's also a larder cupboard going on the opposite wall in grey.
the kitchen end is south facing and the windows are huge so its a lovely bright room with almost 12ft high ceilings.
the original plan was to use the slaked lime on the walls in the kitchen but now we've seen it on the living room we're not sure.. we don't want the space to feel disjointed.. and given there isn't much wall visible are we better continuing the blue to help the room flow!
we're novices.. and are flapping a bit so any help advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated!!!

I would paint above the picture rail and the skirts in the living room in the blue. Then pick out a complementary colour for the cornice to really highlight it. Little Greene suggest China blue but a darker version of the slaked lime would work or maybe your grey if it complements. The room looks big enough not to create a cupboard effect in the living room which can happen with dark colours if you take them to the ceiling. I'd continue the slaked lime in the kitchen (I think it will look different on the walls as your last pic shows it as very white) but paint the bay window ŵall in the blue to frame the window. What colour grey were you looking at? You could consider a darker shade of grey for the island or if you wanted to go a little bolder perhaps a dark teal or emerald green would work with the grey and indigo?Greg Penn thanked minnie101Related Discussions

Comments (11)The colour you paint the walls very much depends on the behaviours you wish to see coming from the space. How you want it to feel. Who you are as a person. Once that is determined you can then ensure it harmonises and tones well with other spaces coming off your hallway. You could pick any colour you like (there's no such thing as a bad colour) but to make it really work for you and for the long term (which is key - hallways are a pain to decorate and you don't want to have to change it in a months time because you don't like it!). It is important to make sure that if, for example you chose red, is the red going to make you feel the way you wAnt it to? Have you chosen the right red? What is the undertone of the red? Comments (10)I think it depends on the aspect and lighting levels of the room. If it's really light you can have anything, if it's North facing I would introduce warmth (wood or similar colour). It's personal taste but I'm not keen on timber effect tiles, maybe it's the gaps between them.
