Looking for some unique ideas

Hi, we live in a converted 1800s Methodist chapel in a country village in uk.
Although the character has been kept outside, the inside main living area is open plan.
We have a large wall in the dinning room (pic 1) where the mirrors are a bit out of proportion to the feeling of space generated by the double floor height ceiling in the lounge and the general open plan design.
We want to do something boutique on the wall and looking for some/any ideas you fancy sharing....the large cog mirrors in pic 2 were are first thoughts.
To add context the room has a slightly 'Alice in wonderland' feel with shabby chic grandfather clock, vintage table centre etc (pic 3 and 4).

Hi. I do like the cogs but they're rather industriał looking. Not particularly unique but you could add 3 framed panels of wallpaper. I've chosen this pic as the paper is framing the table. I would go for something with grey in the pattern to tie in with the living room. As you haven't got an overhead light perhaps a candelabra etc and flowers for the table?

Hello K,

What about trying to maximise the light by having the largest mirror you can find and leaning it up against that rear wall 7ft X 8 ft or bigger if you can! It would then bring light into the main area from dining end too if you can get one long enough that you can get into the space of course!

eBay have an oversized mirror shop. :))

Hi thanks very much for the useful hints and tips, they've really helped! So far I've done a subtle re-jig of the decorative items on the shelves and thinned them out a bit to make it less busy (and more contemporary). I have added a cushion and throw plus a bit more useful storage baskets and so far I'm happier with it now. I also have to consider the overall flow of the room rather than 1 wall - for example when I walk into the room this wall is on the left and the sofa wall is on the right, and there was a risk that if I added shelves etc on this wall it would then unbalance the look of the room as the sofa walls are so far pretty plain. I'm getting a new sofa next month and when this arrives I'll be able to see the room in its finished form and can make any last minute adjustments!! I want to add some more shiny stuff and will get a nice chrome tray or centrepiece for my glass coffee table. Pffft, this house decor lark can take over your life sometimes :))

Ehm... could you post more photos? From further away too? I'd need to see the rest of the garden, to be able to suggest something you can do with that area. Since you have chairs there, would you like it to be another patio? Does it get any sun?

Hi, the industrial look is probably closer to our general look. (See attached photos)...
Photo doesn't show it very well as took it when it was getting dark but the main colour scheme is jasmine white, with shag pile cream/beige carpet, vintage mink sofa and on the other wall leading into the dinning area a custom mix olive like green (as per attached pics - ignore the weird banister thing it's being removed next week!) The large mirror would be good, especially if it was 'tarnished' or aged....but with a six year old and it being our daily eating area in not convinced by it being practicable for our current living environment!

Yes, no wallpaper :) what about a factory style mirror that blends the shabby chic and industriał look?
You can obviously get the hooks for floor standing mirrors which are very safe but if not hang on the ŵall.

To provide closure to this post I thought I'd share where I got with this.
In searching for something unique that was indicative of the agricultural history of the surrounding environment I eventually came across some particularly old potato riddles, which though in need of a bit of tlc had the right dimensions and vibe to catch that industrial/agricultural look we were after.

A couple of bargain mirrors later and all was complete and hung! (Sorry for the mess on the table - this photo was one of the 'sense check' shots)
