Need help to revamp lounge
Comments (8)As you have such an extensive window area, I would avoid too much heavy curtailing and definitely no pelmets, frills or tie-backs. I think I would go for a plain linen that hangs well in a pale colour that will complement, not precisely match, whatever wall colour you choose and of course the lovely fireplace. A blind instead of a curtain would look better on the small side window. So you don't end up with a sea of beige, why not find a large rug to sit in the centre of the room, around which to group the furniture. You could then pick out colours in the rug in scatter cushions and other items...See Morelounge revamp advice
Comments (6)Are you sure you need to redecorate? You obviously carefully chose and coordinated the colour scheme of walls and wall paper. You love your blinds and these match your decor. There are three main considerations here I can see. A need for a dedicated baby play and storage area. A sort of car park for baby walker pram things, a little desk and chair and an attractive easy put away place so parents can relax after baby bedtime. Has Rover got his space or does he commandeer the comfy sofa. You obviously like to have a display area, the fireplace is fighting tv for attention visually and mantelpiece not working as display. A larger unit with display area in photo shelf zone could be answer. Getting the storage and display and people space comfortable might show the way forward....See MoreCottage family dining room revamp
Comments (30)Would the Welsh dresser fit in the recess under the stairs, far enough back to not block that window and borrowing the glass section to reflect light? There appears to be more space on that side of the fire - the newly painted dining table could be be positioned to that side of the fireplace. You could then place the couch (OK, I'm an Aussie and we tend to have couches over sofa's!) closer to the fire for a warm reading area and getting benefit of the window and connect with the fireplace Aqua colouring...The free standing chair could be either nearer the window on that side or in the opposite corner near the radiator. Thereby leaving the radiator free, and I assume able to be more effective? Moving furniture around sometimes helps - I do roll my eyes when hubby suggests repositioning furniture to get things right but it usually gets us thinking about how we use spaces!...See MoreFireplace revamp
Comments (10)Thanks for all the comments. Yes after searching now realise the fireplace is probably 70s addition, the bricks are the thin cladding type. Its a gas fire. The room is about 4.5mx4m wide (14.7ft x 13ft) The chimney is on the outside of the house, so its all solid brick with a cavity. They must have removed some for the niches. House style is something along these lines but detached. https://goo.gl/images/LfMA8o Am considering perhaps just rubbing down the wood to see if we can get a lighter tone. Thanks again...See MoreJosephine Geeson
