Hello joolstc, I like the tiles! I think they just need a bit of attention perhaps they could be replaced or painted something like brick and tile paint and the colour they should be rather than anything else here. I definitely feel these have an impact on the style and I would not remove them unless you were to replace them as they are. They add texture to the house and are actually rather interesting with the cladding... What is not so attractive is the upvc. If you can't replace this aspect you can paint it! There are companies that supply a range of colours and you can breathe new life into this facade with a darker colour for example.. Add some plants and architectural foliage.. I can see a monkey puzzle or something equally interesting on that piece of grass... Some large pots either side of the front door and possibly something green in the windows either side of the two large opening windows.. Fiddle leaf figs would look wonderful... Consider something quite large for a room setting... Large vertical blinds would be great for the whole house and I'd definitely keep these.. Now I'm moving on to the idea of what's inside the house! : ))

Rebecca thanks for the help! Kinorigo looks amazing. They have a black and white dining table that is just beautiful. Would be great if they also did that as a coffee table. They only offer a bespoke service? Sound a bit scary! Can you pm me a price estimate if you've had something similar previously? I'm currently torn between the Platner, the pedrera by gubi and the 'my moon' table my morose!! The gubi is probably my favourite just because of its classic simplicity but it might get a bit lost.

Hi Kat, the tiles were riven quartzite tiles (see link) and they weren't too pricey but I would go for honed as the riven were very riven. We ordered far too many and selected the ones we wanted. Make sure they are sealed before grouting. The paint is Light Bronze Green and I chose it to bring out the violet tones in the pale oak. Got the shelf idea from an old Conran book and it is so useful. I am not sure what you mean about overlooking your neighbours re slate? Do you mean the cladding for the extension? There are so many options available now that you are not restricted to brick or slate. We used a grey composite fibre cladding with white painted brickwork and dark grey bifolds. I would first decide whether you like the look of the brick or would prefer a complete contrast. There is stunning wooden cladding available now. The black shou sugi ban style can look fantastic next to the garden. The other issue is that if you choose a pitched roof then you can glaze the whole gable which gives a more spacious feel. I am sure the planners will have some ideas too as to what is acceptable and what precedents have already been set.
