Thank you both very much. We originally went for cornflower white as it appeared to just have a very tiny hint of grey-blue, and we were trying to continue the theme from our lounge which has just been decorated in 'sea mist' by johnstones (grey-duck egg colour, brilliant white woodwork with calico/dirty cream furnishings, and F&B elephants breath coloured linen style curtains).

Evidently this attempt hasn't worked though! We didn't find any warm whites that didn't look too yellow when we were doing our (very limited) research, so I'll have to have another hunt around.

Thanks vansoire14, I've looked up F&B pointing, however as always on the Internet the shade appears quite varied in appearance so I'll dig out my F&B colourchart and see if I can get a tester.

Our aim with the room is to create a calm space with hints towards vintage/retro and -accessories in natural colours/textures. We also don't want the room to look too sparse or bright in the morning (it's south facing with a large window so is flooded with light all morning. We did have brilliant white in there for a little while as a base after plastering but that seemed too clinical and stark compared to the rich wood veneer kitchen and dappled tiles. Our kitchen although from the 80s, has intergrated stainless steel handles and looks a bit like the some of the German brand kitchens. I like vintage anyway, hence why we're keeping the kitchen and tiles.

Shjuly71 - we quite like the tiles as they're enkeeping with kitchen/house, although they are proving to be the issue really regarding the cornflower white.

I went on a trip out for testers and to nosey about all the colour charts again this morning and have results as follows;

F&B 'skimming stone' out - too orangey/modern beigey looking against tiles

F&B 'pointing' out - too yellowy against tiles

Found 'white mist' by Dulux (a bit like F&B 'wevet' but slightly less pinky) which is complimentary to the kitchen but I think it might look too cold /stark if painted all over walls

I then stared at the F&B colour chart for a while and have seen 'lime white', 'off white', 'old white', and 'slipper satin' (no tester of slipper satin in shop earlier).

What do you all think? I'm not sure how true the swatches are to the painted up colours but maybe a start?

Have a look at White Cotton Endurance by Dulux it has a slight grey undertone. Hope this helps.

Hi, thank you for your comments. We're still struggling to find the right shade so I'll look those two colours up.

My sister does have her whole house painted in milk white and it looked beautiful the last time I visited, but her house is an open plan new build with a very neutral kitchen and flooring so I'll have to see how it'd look with our kitchen and tiles.

I've been looking for a very light grey with just a tiny hint of beige this evening, in the hope that the beige element will tie into colour of the tiles, but the grey will make our kitchen units/worktop pop, and it's my preferred colour for the room if I wasn't trying to find something to go with the existing kitchen. I have yet to find the shade that is in my head. Can anyone think of any please?

All farrow and ball colours are out, I even called them up and they couldn't suggest any of their colours after me sending over a picture and telling them what we'd already tried! We tried shadow white today before that, and it looks like a very sandy beige with green undertones that doesn't go well with the tiles or the worktop/doors.

Have a look at paints from

the little Greene , they are similarly high in pigment to f&b and similarly priced . With a broader colour range and paint types that will work in kitchens and bathrooms.

sanderson paints are also good. with an enormous range of colours.
